Is Adsense worth it if you don't have a high-traffic blog?

My site is in a technology niche. The site gets about 7000 pageviews and 4000 unique visitors a month.

The site makes most of its money from Amazon's affiliate program and a few other affiliate programs.

Would Adsense be worth implementing? If so, how many ads should I set up? I'm not sure if one ad in the widget section would be enough..

Thanks! Let me know if you need more information.

Personally, I am not a big fan of Adsense.

You work hard to get traffic to your site, and then in order to make a few pennies, one of those visitors clicks on Adsense and leaves your site. That's not the most lucrative way to handle what visitors you get.

In order to make substantial money with Adsense, you need to get mega-traffic to your web site.

Sure, you can make a few extra bucks a month with this method . . . but there are a ton of more effective and efficient ways to make money - much more money than with Adsense.

Create, license, or outsource your own product and you will make way more money (if it's good) with it than you will with Adsense.

    Good luck to you,

    Steve

Good point. For the pennies you get with Adsense I feel like I will be losing money by sending traffic away from my site.

Do you use Adsense on any of your sites?

This is very easy to find out. I assume you have a quality site, so you won't be rejected by Adsense. Put the ads on your site for a week and compare the earnings to your Amazon earnings.
Why do you think it's a good idea to ask other people what you should do? Test it yourself.

It could be indeed pennies. I do use Adsense, because I get pretty much untargeted random traffic. Adsense seems one of the best options to monetize my sites.
While I usually get about 20 cents per click I 've had a few $10 clicks and one €88 click (Gemany). I was able to track this particular click. Depending on niche and keywords you use on your page, you might get high CPC and that could make it worth to use Adsense.
You will never know until you try.

Furthermore, you can make it so that you display Adsense only to returning visitors or if you have a membership area display the ads to members only. This way you are NOT sending visitors away for good. They'll leave your site, but come back later anyway, if they are already members.

$10 clicks? I didn't even know that existed. Good advice though. I'll probably do a 1-2 week test.

I get them once in a while, but €80 clicks are indeed rare. I was able to track it because it happened early in that day, and that was the only click from Tablet.

Adsense used to be a fair amount of income provider for me but since last year I moved away from it. Mostly because of the same comments raised here, you are just losing valuable clients who could potentially spent much more than the small amount Google Adsense pay out. You need to find better monetizing products and services...

for adsense, you might have known there's some wp theme that are built specifically to optimize the adsense CTR, so it'll make you more money..

I think the only way to find out is to try 1 widget or 2 at max, to test the traffic of your website now..

If it's going well, continue it.

Testing is the only way to do it.. I think you can put that in the middle of the page and at the end of the post..

Adsense is a good option to monetize you website, to make a lot of money with Google Adsense is to have a lot of traffic, the more traffic you can get to your blog, the more click you going to get.

About people leaving you site, if you produce good content and you collect their email (They can return to your website, is all about building a relationship) when you promote a affiliate product, you also sending people to other website, but if you create good content, they going to keep visiting you website.

According my experience 100 targeted people to your Amazon affiliate website can generate 5-10 sales($10-$20+ profit depending on product price).

100 targeted people on Adsense site with 5% conversion and $.25/click rate will only earn you $1.25. To make good money from adsense you need plenty of traffic.

If your website is doing good with Amazon affiliate program then don't put Adsense Ads. It will only reduce your sales and many customers will leave your site by clicking on Adsense Ads.

Good advice. I have a few other sites that might benefit more from adsense than my tech site.

With only 4000 unique visitors per month, you're not going to earn very much. That's less than 150 visitors per day.

It depends with your long-term vision with the site. Adsense does require a lot of traffic to earn a substantial income from it.

If you're converting well with Amazon with 4000 visitors, it might be more worthwhile to just leave it as an Amazon site.

If you're planning on growing out the site with more content besides those targeted for products, Adsense can be worthwhile.

    Grow out that traffic first.

If you're banned from using any other income method, then sure, Adsense is worth it. Just because it's popular, you don't need it to make alot of money online. If you do go down the Adsense route, make sure you focus on building up your blog subscribers. Each you put up a new post, your blog subscribers will get an email saying you got new content, and some will come and read it.

If you have Adsense ads on your site when this repeat traffic comes in, then more than likely some of them will click on them, and you will make money. The bigger the list, the more high quality the content.... you can make sufficient amounts of money with Adsense.

But dont ignore creating your own products or promoting affiliate items.
