I keep seeing all these posts about how wonderful Youtube is for driving traffic to your websites. They make it seem like all you have to do is upload a video to youtube and watch leads pour in like a river.

The reality is, many youtube videos never see the light of day. When you upload a video to youtube you can expect to get 0 views, unless you pay for some service to artificially boost your view count, in which case you will simply rank for obscure keywords that attract link spammers.

It depends on so many things, but starting with the content.

Was it something people want to see? After that, all of the effort to make it seen...
    • thumbnail
    • title
    • description
    • keywords in file name
    • transcribe/captions/diff languages
    • comment on relevant/related YT vids with a link to your vid
    • backlinking

Even with all of those factors, if the content is meh, then yeah it won't get much/if any visits.

    OK, you are wrong.

You left a whole lot out of your original statement. Of course, if you just make a crap video and do not do your keyword research and other things to make your video findable and enjoyable, then it will suck.

On the other hand, if you do things right, then the sky is the limit

    You're wrong.

Seriously, if you were my 4 year old....I'd say that's a bad attitude to have. Video's can gain views a number of different ways and without some more information on your niche, it's hard to know what the issue is. I've had plenty of videos with under 10 views, I've also had a number with views into the hundreds, or thousands.

For me, an introductory video from a winemaker about their smaller wine project, tends to land in the middle of the first page of Google searches for their brand-as they grow, I get a ton of views and get to market the wine club in which I included their wine.

Sure, if you're selling something to "make money online" things are going to be more difficult, but there's plenty of opportunity left.

Most humans on the planet hate reading.

Heck, I'm a curmudgeonly bookworm and I HATE READING.

So yeah. That's the primary benefit of YouTube.

And, I'm not much of a psychic... But I can guarantee you this...

Your target demographic LOVES YouTube, and probably spends much of their time (even wasting their time) on YouTube.

Do you think it might be a worthwhile venture to hang out where your audience does?

    Just a little?

How many videos have you made? How long are they? What kind of keywords are you using? There are plenty of different factors that go into being successful and like they said above it is going to be hit or miss. Your best bet would be to start making 500+ videos in order to build a name for yourself and to make any decent money with ads

I have posted very few videos on youtube. I do nothing special, I just demonstrate a simple skill such as how to upload and edit a squeeze template ( just an example) For some reason, these very few, simple videos have 1000's of views. I could get better at directing these views and turning them into my own traffic, but the videos are getting views.

your wrong! Youtube is a fanstic way to generate leads. Two things here you need to understand.
First is you can't just create one video and expect it to rock. You should create multiple videos.

The second part of that is your not optimizing your videos. The content you are sharing via video needs to be in demand like anything else. Once you know you have a demand for your video content then you need to optimize your videos. Then you need to do some backlinking and share your videos on your social networks.

The longer people watch your video the higher in the serps youtube will rank it. Of course there are other factors but I find this one to be the strongest.

Also there is huge shortcut to all of this and this is find videos with a lot of traffic and write the owner a message asking if they'll place a link in the description for you. Of course you though them 20 or 50 bucks and a lot of time they will be glad to do it. Or offer to buy the whole video.

The quality of your videos needs to be of high quality as well.

The nice thing about using youtube is the traffic just keeps coming day in and day out for the most part...

Lol i promote my videos, which makes a huge difference. Even videos for keywords that have low searches get hundreds of views of the course of many weeks.

This is because, like anything else in the marketing world, you have to get your thing (in this case a video) in front of people looking for your topic.

That means posting on it various sites for video syndication and other marketing methods. I also get my videos ranked for relevant keywords on youtube and google just by setting up the videos in a certain way which tends to equate to a ton of organic traffic.

If your market/niche/whatever isn't very popular then you're going to need more videos to compensate for the lack of search volume.

Generally speaking, however, yes there is still some work to do even after your video is uploaded.

Yeah, maybe I will just get youtube tsunami and automate the entire process, because thousands of people aren't already doing this, and taking advantage of channel owners is very white hat.

Did you say you wanted to throw rocks are you tube? Perhaps some ROTTEN eggs. Like a whole case. Read up on YRO or You tube Ranking Optimization and find out the various ways... you too can get real people (not a bot) to view mini movies.

I will give you one tip. Most viewers are young. They prefer to see actors that are young. Get one at FIVERR to be your spokes person.

I totally agree with what SEO bro mentioned...If you don't mind, may I know the name of your channel? There are so many factors to consider. Based on my experience, we cannot rely much on one thing only. Explore and try to do something new, you might discover things that work for you best which others have not known yet.

You Tube is still probably the best video uploading platform simply because it is a Google product, and Google will reward their products higher than competitors products of course.

I've also had good search ranking success with Vimeo and Daily Motion so you could take a look at those as well.

Also, to save you some time, don't bother looking at mass video uploading shortcuts as Google has caught on to these tactics as of late and you might ending up doing more harm than good.

      Your wrong.

Briefly, know your niche and create a channel that will give the niche what it is looking for. You must give valuable information that will help your niche and your viewers.

Depending on your niche, create a video that will fulfill their needs. Create a tutorial if that is what you niche is looking for. Be entertaining if that is what your niche is looking for. Your job is to help your niche and your viewers.

Create great videos. Find out what type of video works for your niche. Research what the competition is doing. See which of your competitor's videos work. Discover which don't work. You will now have a starting point on what type of video to create.

Make your viewers happy and they will give you their trust. Then you will be able to get traffic to your site and be able to promote products or services to them. Not before.

The way you put it is very interesting. I do agree in the sense that some people have high expectations. They really do think by putting a video up it will unleash the beast of traffic generation. This is definitely not how it will work out.

First of all you have to come up with a strategy as to what your videos will be about, what niche are you targeting and if it even makes sense to make videos for the niche. The beauty about making videos and building a brand on YouTube is the fan base you are able to create.

Just make sure you understand that this takes a long time to build this fan base and it all comes down to being consistent with your videos, your information must be valuable and entertaining.

Man, it all depends on a lot of things, u really cannot pretend to upload a simple video and the day after get tons of targeted traffic as magic.

First off you should optimize the channel and create it just for the niche you are into, (e.g. weight loss niche channel) then up load videos and optimize them as much as you can and finally build high quality backlinks, and not crappy, useless orphan backlinks.

if you do not do that you can even forget getting any views and traffic to your website.

    cheers

You are completely wrong. I made $50,000 with just 1 youtube video. You just need to know how to rank it. The same with a site on google. No difference. And it's way easier to rank a youtube video than a site.
