Question about viral website and monetization

Hello.

I just opened a viral website about dogs 3 days ago and i already have more than 10.000 visits in less than 2 days.

I'm using adsense to monetize this and testing different ads. I didn't have great results with my previous ads formats so i'm trying the responsive ads below title and content. Do you have some recommendations about this?

How can i monetize this kind of website? Do you have any tips?

Thanks!

i would also link to a facebook fan page as well. pretty much what you have to do. Once you build an audience the possibilities are endless with what you can do. The most important thing about IM is quality traffic, once you can harness loyal followers you'll start seeing some cash flow.

Rather than focus on monetising it, try turn that viral traffic into long term growth. Write the content in a way to promote links, and do plenty of keyword research. When it comes to going viral, that traffic will eventually die. Try to think more in the long term.

Sorry for not actually answering your question, but hopefully you will value my advice.

Any chance you could teach us your method for making content go viral?

As for Adsense optimization, most websites are lucky to get anywhere from 1 to 3% CTR. The best you can do is use Google's best performing ad sizes and put your ads above the fold but embedded inside your content.

hopefully your not paying for your traffic! Adsense will shut you down. If your not making any adsense clicks and you have tried moving your placements around then I would question the traffic that is coming in. Where is the traffic coming from thats the question.

The traffic is from stumbleupon mostly. Unfortunatly, it's low quality traffic so i guess i can't really make any money.
But yes, you are right, i shouldn't be focused on the money now. My website is only online for less than a week.
    Thank for your replies anyway.

Can you talk about how you make stumbleupon work? I post there and I get nothing. No one ever seems to see my articles.

I have a "viral" site, too. One thing I can say is, Facebook does not seem to be a good source of traffic anymore. Organic reach is way down. You can pay for sponsored posts, but I have not figured out how people make a profit on that. I'm sure that people do, but I haven't cracked the code.

  • Test email marketing.

Go to clickbank, find some good dog training/dog related products and setup a email autoresponder selling these products.

    What is your audience demographic?

This is what i noticed worked for me, using StumbleUpon:

    - One banner ad right below the title (horizontal ad).
    - One rectangular (square) ad at the very bottom, after the article ends.

Those two ads alone have worked out pretty well, as long as StumbleUpon does its job and delivers the traffic.

    What is your audience demographic?
I just noticed i didn't enable the demographics on analytics... Well, 70% of my traffic is from USA.

Can you talk about how you make stumbleupon work?
Well, i just posted a few links there and did nothing special. It was the first time i was using Stumbleupon. One of my links only got 18 views and the "viral" link almost 17k views right now.

Is the website niche focused on the same viral content for every post - or is it just "anything" that may go viral? If it's niche content you can build a list. If it's general viral stuff you have to use ads and perhaps one-off promos once you identify your audience demographics.
