How to choose domains?

I am a little bit new on SEO.

I am using article marketing as basic sales strategy.

Now i want to SEO with backlinks (create a mini private blog network).

How do we choose domains that have quality PR or pottentials for fast growth?

How do you test the marketing quality of a domain?

Basic things are PR and Moz rank (PA and DA)...and backlinks.

What else do you check before you purchase a domain?

Also...how much money should someone pay for a good PR6 or PR7/PR8 domain?
...After what number you can say Moz rank is good?

Literally, none of this is very important. Pick a catchy, easy to remember domain. MUCH more important is how your site ranks for your content, topic, keywords, etc. Domain is only one part of the game and if you spend too much time fretting over it you won't even get your site up at all.

Build your backlinks once you have a site up, not the other way around. Anything else is just shady.

Domain with good seo history will boost traffic to your website fast.

If you want buy domain with a much backlink and good pr $100-$500 is the best bet for the price.

    OR

if you just want pay only registration free please check this website expireddomains.net.
Then check "deleted domain" section and check the backlink,pr,alexa etc. Usually that website will show your list of deleted domains, domain history such as pr,backlink, alexa of the domains everyday.

EDIT: Don't expect you can get a good domain for registration fee. The more cost you spent the more benefit you can get.

Bellow some perfect tips for select domain Name, i think it is more helpful for you.

    (2) Focus on Short Domain name:- if your domain is long , you risk customers mistyping.
    (3) Use keywords in domain Name.
    (4) Target your business area.
    (5) Avoid Symbols, Numbers and hyphens.
    (6) Research First.
    (7) Used an appropriate domain name extension.

    Kalimera!

It seems you are trying to game the system. It's not a good idea. It might, however, work for a short period of time.
PR (pagerank) is meaningless these days and furthermore it can be inflated (so I heard), so you should not price the domain based on PR alone.

Instead of paying for PR7/PR8 domain, you could spend the money to buy an active website with decent traffic.

My sites are already up, for more than 2+ years. Also they have a lot of unique content and articles.

I don't want to game the system or manipullate, i am thinkinkg of catching 8-10 pr6/pr7 domains threw marketplaces in low prices, add there 20-30 articles with some text links for pr juice

Worst case scenario, it will give a small benefit only.

I have found some good deals, nice names, old ones and with verified pr for 15-20 usd at GoDaddy. But when it sounds to good to be true...it probably isn't. This is why i asked for some opinions on how to check the quality of the domain.

Thank you for the expireddomains.net suggestion, i was looking threw domcop.com.

For buying ready sites with traffic, beside flippa...which other market you people check?

I think flippa still the best marketplace to buy a website. I have been there for long time and completed a many deals on buying website ofcourse.

A few weeks ago I bought a starter website with a nice traffic stats and some revenue sales from affiliate.
I bought from just $300 Still fair price to me.

Other marketplace maybe freemarket.com but I don't have any deals with sellers there because I don't like them. Just beware there a many scammers there.

Are your sites in Greek or English language, or in both?
I understand that you want to boost your site's authority to rank better for your chosen keywords in search engines, is that correct?

Or are you interested in buying domains with existing traffic to send that traffic to your existing site?

One more thing, are you going to host all those domains you intend to purchase on the same IP? If so, I doubt it will boost your authority. Why not doing it the ancient way, by asking webmasters of established sites to link to your site?

don't overcomplicate things. Find a high traffic keyword phrase and then go to google and type that phrase in google and check the pagerank of those sites that are on the first page. If mostly you have low ranked websites then your good to go...

Do plenty of anchor keyword backlinks with your main keyword but very important to include lots of lsi keywords as well as things like "click here" and also be sure to link to multiple pages not just your root.

My sites are in Greek. I don't want to drive traffic, i want to gain authority and PR "juice" to rank better, this is correct.

I will do it with several shared ip's threw different hosting providers

      Ask competitors to...support my site?
Backlinking is hard for e-commerce, and in Greece high PR is rare.

If your competition is in .gr domain space and they don't have high PR, then the chances are you don't need it either to outperform them. Also PR is just one factor among a few hundred, so it isn't as important as it used to be a decade ago.

        What's your niche?

Yes. If the keyword is great, people will more likely search for domains. So as soon as you think you've got the best keyword, get it before someone else does.

Keep in mind that Google have stopped supplying PageRank data, some years ago now.

Be sure to check what Majestic have to say about the domains too. You can easily inflate DA and PA values with spammy backlinks, so I find that Majestic TF and CF metrics are essential as a place to start when looking at a domain.

Do your own research on the backlinks pointing to the domains. It's quite easy to spot spam.

I dabbled a bit in domain names about a year ago. Not much so I can't offer much advice here other than choose a short and memorable name. Avoid symbols and long names. Check domain auction sites regularly, you might find a good name that suits your site with decent ranking and backlinks and for a reasonable price.

I just recently discovered that choosing the right domain name matters so much. In choosing your domain name, target your niche area.
Choose a domain name that explain the content of your site.
Make it as short as possible.
People can easily memorize your domain name when they visit your site 3 or 4 times in week.

"create a mini private blog network" ?

    Where are we? In 2010?

Do you really want to send backlinks to your main blog from a network of junk sites with auto-generated content, which will be discovered and removed by Google anyway?

And why would you want to do SEO anyway? Put your business in Google's hands and let them control your traffic? Does that sound very appealing to you?

Forget about SEO and generate traffic yourself by being active on social sites of your niche, forums, blog commenting, etc.

Just choose a domain name that is easy to understand, relevant to the niche and products that you want to sell, and just market the heck out of it. Don't focus on SEO value. SEO is good, but there are far faster places to test results first, and to tell you if your quest is a good one - or a bad one.

  • All excellent questions, Mindthepap! You might be new to SEO but I can tell your head's in the right place...

Buying expired domains for your mini PBN is a great idea... just as long as you do your due diligence to look into the domains' history. You absolutely have to check: Moz stats, Majestic stats, Wayback snapshots, SPAM, geo location history & keyword history.

You could do all of that manually (which takes forever) or you could use a domain crawler that grabs all that info for you. Some SEO geniuses I know created domainreanimator (dot) com, which gives you all the stats you need as well as giving you all files you need to rebuild from a past snapshot. I've been doing it the manual way for years myself, so this tool is a god send! Check it out & let me know what you think.

Building your own blogging network, with old domain names, would have worked very well a while ago. Today, the search engines have changed a lot, especially Google (of course).

I wouldn't worry too much about building a blog network, with the solely purpose of backlinks.

Even a Tiered backlink strategy today is something to really think about, before implementing. With all of the recent Google updates, you want to be really really careful with your backlink strategies.

Personally, I don't really worry too much about the Off-Page SEO.

I worry more about the new On-Page SEO and the quality of my content. Now, if you focus only on this, and really put in great quality work on this part, the off-page SEO will take care of itself!

And that is because when your content is soooo damn good ... in your niche .. others will be glad to link back to your posts, and also share in their social networks.

So, to rank high in the search engines today, I would say that taking some real time to craft the best content possible, in your niche, with some good marketing, is what you need to focus all of your energy on!

I have seen blogging experiments, where bloggers do not get any backlinks to their blog posts, and still rank very high in the search engines. And that is because they focus all of their energy and effort on the content and marketing!!!

    I hope this helps!

    Keep up the great work!
