Consistency vs. Hard work

Many people starting online come from a background where they trade their time for money.

But, I have come to the conclusion that success in this arena comes from consistency, not burning yourself out for days on end.

I have been looking at this wrong, and I hope my new perspective can help others suffering/ or on the verge of suffering from burnout.

The hardest work you can do comes from being consistent.

      Quoted For Truth

The HARD WORK involved in ANY KIND of success in life involves CHANGING YOUR CHARACTER.

From someone who gives up after a setback, you need to keep taking the hits and moving forward.

From someone who's too lazy to innovate or who thinks like a SHEEP, you have to change your mindset and THINK OUTSIDE OF CONVENTIONAL THINKING.

Character Change in of itself is a REWARD

      Try it today.

This is crucial. You have to have the correct mind set to succeed and roll with the punches. Develop a thick skin, and keep failing forward by taking massive imperfect action.

If you are taking the right steps you can succeed, but it does take perseverance! And don't be surprised by upsetting people; not everyone will like you but that's ok!

Consistency is definitely more valuable than hard work ...if you are going about it correctly.

Working hard but not having a well thought out Plan is a mistake many Newbies are guilty of.

Unfortunately, modern society doesn't put enough emphasis on CHARACTER.

          Character is crucial for success.

It is all about INTEGRITY, FOCUS, and REAL PRIDE.

I like to think of it as determination. That is, not giving up. I don't know how old you are, but let's say you're "of age."

Now think back to all the things you gave up on, and wonder if you'd be successful by now if you'd only stuck with just one of them a little longer.

Personally, I'd probably be a famous cellist by now.

      Is 22 of age?

Time goes by so fast so...

But there is still time for you to be a famous cellist .

I think it comes down to motivation versus determination. Motivation will only get you so far, so don't look too hard for it. Focus on determination. Doing the things you need to, even when you don't want to.

When you say "this arena", do you mean having your own website and selling something? Have you tested this theory when it comes to selling on Amazon or Ebay? I think your perspective would change if you do sell on both of these sites.

Id say consistency by far.. but I am only finding that out now after working very hard at different projects and not focusing.

I am now being consistent with one method and am doing better in the last year than I have in the combine 3 years I have been in the industry previously

Consistency? Hard work? You guys certainly know how to make running your own business sound unappealing.

I understand the urge to inject a dose of realism into the fanciful notions some may harbor about online riches, but I'd never have started any project if I didn't believe I was going to have fun in the process.

Consistency is the province of systems - set them up and let them take care of the mundane aspects of your business while you get on with the much more important role of trying out different things. Experiment. Create. Innovate. Have fun.

You can't force yourself to be continually motivated unless you're enthused about what you're doing.

Lots of people aren't enthused about going to jobs from 9-5, but they have to do it whether they are motivated or not.

Cobbloaders. You always have a choice.

But in any case, this thread is about running your own business.

Reason is 9 to 5 job provide constant income , end of the month you will be ensure a fix wage.

for IM I feel like doing your own business , yes can consider you are the boss.

daily have to hope there are sales ,
for recurring program too. No sales = No income.
that is hard for some people in fact. I should say majority.
Or else everyone will quit and become own boss.

that why no choice have to do 9 to 5 jobs even you dislike seriously now at work most people just work for wage. If you tell them do you like the job you doing? Usually most of them will say NO , just doing for the seek of wage.

for me in fact I just quit from my full time job perhaps due to burn out....stay in the same for 15 years. initial I like my job , everyday like to go work. Due to politics yea as usual office politics
me and my colleagues been assign to another job scope which we never learn but we try for one , two year but still feel tired. Job become boring every day have to force myself go.
one day I told myself enough.
I just quit without getting a new job. My parents even feel...a bit moody in fact. I told them now i concentrate on my IM on the meantime perhaps find a job also enjoy a break.

talking about IM , I believe most parents or even your wife will feel suspicious too...yes they are right. My parents once told me if IM so easy than every one will stay at home do no need go out work .

the problem as I mention constant fix income. Once they see you every month got a constant income from IM. even is not constant at least 2k min . Their face will be EPIC when see it and naturally they will not speak bad about IM as it already proof to them.

this is my thoughts opps ( maybe out of topic here )

        I live/work by these philosophy's.

Because if you find yourself spending 12 or more hours a day "being consistent" in stressing yourself out, browsing WSO's, and/or trying to find some new almost blackhat strategy to game Google so you can drive traffic to someone else's products for an affiliate cut,

if that's your business model, then you might as well just go get yourself a 9/5 job, (more like 7am / 7pm these days) and go make your employer rich for the same amount of stress I see some folks in here put them selves through.

I don't support the latter, but there's nothing healthy about being consistent in doing either of the two.

Have fun! Otherwise what's the point?

You will make mistakes with both consistency and hard work. It's unavoidable.

And sometimes being consistent IS hard work, like lolCashlol said.

My personal experience has shown that consistency is a highly valuable skill, if you combine it with the ability to alter your plans as you go.

When Squidoo was big, I would consistently write 2 articles every single day for the site. I originally started off submitting my articles to just one category. Then I branched out to others, until I realized where the most money could be made.

I wrote short articles. I wrote long articles. I wrote how-to's. I wrote about personal experiences.

I was consistent in that I submitted two articles everyday. But I also changed what I wrote and how I wrote it. This is ultimately how I became more profitable.

And even though Squidoo closed its doors, I've been using this same technique for almost 20 years. Consistency works!

Consistency is important, but only if you are doing the right things. The only way to do the right things is to test everything and make decisions based on results.
