Buying a domain name $$$$ URGENT!!!

HI guys, I want to buy a domain name to build a review website.
I am a noob with this, so I will like some advice.
Where do I buy a domain name, with very high privacy,
and also which hosting service has the best plans.
And should I buy it for personal or business use? I see this option and I don't know much if
one is better than the other.
Gracias.
(and sorry if this is a double post, I can't find the first one I just made earlier )

I've always used Namecheap and never had any problems. They even threw in the domain privacy for free and they have very reasonable hosting plans. Best of luck.

I also use Namecheap for my domain names and I have used Hostgator for my hosting as there is nearly always an offer to get cheap hosting with them!

If i use Namecheap for domain name, and wordpress for hosting, do I pay fees to wordpress.
I don't understand how this works?
I will pay a freelancer to build the site. But unfortunately I have no Idea of what I need to do.

No, there are no further fees to Wordpress. In most cases your host can handle the install of Wordpress for you. You just need to submit a support ticket to them once you have paid for hosting.

No, WordPress is free to use. You pay your hosting company for hosting e.g. Hostgator/GoDaddy etc. It's only about $8-10 per month and most hosts' c-panel include QuickInstall or Fantastico which allows you to install WordPress with 1 click.

Namecheap is definitely the best registrar.
Namecheap is a pretty good host as well. They're one of several great options.

Tip: NEVER buy a domain from a host (aka non-registrar).
ONLY buy a domain from a registrar, else you'll be sorry!

If you really care about your site, you won't use WordPress.com (the hosted solution)

I think you are confused with Domain name and hosting.

    Let me explain you

The domain name you can buy from anywhere whether it is Godaddy or namecheap. This company also provide hosting but I do not prefer to buy hosting from Godaddy or namecheap because there main job is domain name and they will not give you good service on hosting as they count it as different department from there primary business.

There primary business is domain name

For hosting you have to buy through Hostgathor, Bluehost and there are so many other like that.. you just have to make sure that you can install Wordpress on their server

And when you buy the domain name, you just have to add the DNS name in your Domain name company settings and link with your hosting company and you go from there.

It is simple but it is bit confusing if you do not understand it...I hope you understand it now

With Godaddy, yes, this is the case.
      Same with most registrars.
But Namecheap has excellent hosting, and is the exception to the "never buy hosting from a registrar" rule.
NC has an excellent infrastructure, far better than many "only hosts".

      Jason,

Wordpress (if we're not talking the free-hosted blogs) is a CMS. A content management system. You use that to operate a blog; it's the software that runs the blog. Hosting is a different thing entirely. It depends what kind of hosting you need, to answer your second question. I'd recommend using WF search to see which hosts people are currently happy with - it seems to change from year to year.

      Cheers,

      Tom

      LiquidWeb
      WebhostingBuzz
      Site5
      Namecheap
      Veerotech
      Stablehost
      EuroVPS

I use more than 1 host, and those are the primaries at the moment.
I don't use low-end crap like Hostgator and Godaddy.

I use both Hostgator and Namecheap. They are both great but for domains I choose Namecheap as they have a variety of TLDs.

    I forgot to add . . .

A lot of us use Godaddy. To save yourself money, search NamePros.com for the latest coupon codes. If you do that, you can register new domains for as little as 99 cents.

You can pay for hosting monthly rather than pay for one year in advance.

You are confusingWordpress with hosting. You may be thinking of the FREE wordpress option but that won't work for what you need. Others are advising you to register a domain, get hosting and build/run your own blog or site...that's the way you need to go.

In my opinion you are jumping before looking. You are talking about a highly competitive and regulated niche (gambling) and have not taken the time to learn the basics of having your own site or blog.

As usual very few think before replying...
Kay beat me to it, anyway. Jason please do yourself a favor and do some serious research before asking another question...

You obviously don't have a clue about any of this and to top it off your niche "gambling" is probably among the 5 most competitive out there and no place for someone as green as you to start...

There are many places to buy Domain. Such as if you want to buy a new domain, you can see on the GODADDY or, NAMECHEAP. on the other hand if you are willing to buy Used Domain, you can take a look on the FLIPPA or, DIGITAL POINT. if you buy the used domain, its rate may high than the new one. Thanks a lot for understanding.

Firstly I strongly recommend you to buy your domain from Godaddy. Also you should choose a domain name that relates to your product name.

    And why is this URGENT?

You want to start a new undertaking, in an area you know little about, but you somehow think a couple URGENT answers online will net you everything you need to know?

Do yourself a favor and save your money. If you arent willing to patiently research and methodically plan, and meticulously execute, just put your money away someplace rather than go p*** it away with a shoddy half effort at something.

  • Yes, register a domain name from GoDaddy or NameCheap. THEN buy hosting from a different company like HostGator, BlueHost, Hostnine, etc... After you've got a domain and hosting set up, then you can install Wordpress on your domain. You will need to change your Nameservers (DNS) over to your host's servers. Your hosting company, whichever you choose, can help you with that and the install of Wordpress. You should use a starter monthly hosting plan - no need to pay up front for a whole year.

+1 for GoDaddy, as I use them myself and you should also get their domain privacy option as well. Costs a bit extra, but does the job well.

Hosting wise, if you just need basic shared hosting, then there are plenty of options...Anything from Bluehost and JustHost to Hostgator and HostMonster.
