What are some ways that a blog or podcast can be monetized?

I'm really excited about starting a blog and podcast... but I don't know how to monetize it other than selling some Ebooks through my website. What are some other legitimate ways to monetize a blog or podcast?

    There are plenty, James.

    Consider:

    1. Affiliate Offers.
    2. AdSense.
    3. Selling Traffic.
    4. Your own digital products (Click Bank, JVZoo, WSO).
    5. TeeSpring.com
    6. Fiverr Gigs.
    7. Services

I could go on, but those should give you some good ideas. It depends on the blog and the podcast, really.

To look at affiliate offers, take a look around OfferVault.com

    Cheers,

    Tom

A blog can have ads which add as complimentary products to increase the reader's knowledge. You don't have to rely explicitly on Adsense, but can use third party ad distribution sites which pay a particular amount as fee based on your site/blog traffic.

These ads are tracked by a unique id and you get paid for clicks on them or for views. In general these are called as CPC and CPM respectively.

    A podcast can be monetized by including plugs/ad-calls at the start and end of the podcast. You can get an idea on how this done if you go to soundcloud[dot]com and hear to some podcasts. The interviewer generally includes an ad of a product either at the start by saying that {Today's audio podcast is being brought to you by --------- and the company excels in ------- }

If your podcast has several thousand subscribers, you can take home a good amount of money.

Think you probably want to get your business idea in place first...know who you will sell to and what and THEN go about planning your blog and/or podcast.

It's far simpler to plan a blog or podcast (really vehicles to communicate, reach and pull in your target market) when you know what your business does and who it serves versus trying to start something and then look to monetize it down the road.

I think I'm mainly going to be in the religion/spirituality market. Tough one, I know.

When I first started out 7 years ago , I begin with Adsense and some free cpa offers.

And they were producing pretty quickly

For newbies, I would recommend promoting Clickbank products just to get your feet wet!
