Kind of hard to do since I live with my parents, lol. But yeah, I'm ignoring them for the most part.

I think the next time they bring up the job this and that, I'll tell them I'm a freelancer that's writing articles for people online (which I'm not doing nor will I likely ever do). My Dad knows the freelancer terminology, and thus, will understand more of what "he thinks" I'm doing.

The same people that say you can't make money online are the same people that actually shop online. If you think about it, way more people spend money online than somewhere else. But on the other hand, internet marketing is a numbers game just like offline sales. It's all about providing what people need and having the best product that fills that need.

Show them what you've earned to make them believe in you. Do not ask money from them anymore and let them believe that you are really earning from what they think is non-sense.

That's why I'm shifting towards affiliate marketing while keeping my Adsense sites on autopilot. I like my Adsense earnings, but you only get paid on the 21st each month (at least it is for me).

Next time, I'll show them proof of earnings if they ask.

My Dad asked me a couple of questions about it, but then proceeded to mention about me looking into this job thing he mentioned (-_-).

My Mom knows about what I'm doing sort of, but then we went shopping a few days ago and she said "once you graduate from college next year, you'll find an actual job and not this online stuff." Basically, both of my parents don't believe that I'm what I'm doing is "real work" or anything to live off of so to speak. I didn't proceed to get into it with my Mom, because I would have said something about how if my online business booms in the future, then I wouldn't be needing a job. Don't get me wrong, I do plan and want to get my degree as a backup and what not since you never know, but my online business is my first priority now (I have my Adsense sites on autopilot, and am now looking towards affiliate marketing).

Basically, neither really support what I'm doing, which is fine. I didn't expect support to begin with, nor am I looking for it. I know that if I work hard at this, and stay disciplined, that I will succeed in IM.

Than I told them isn't same like open a shop sell stuff?
You can't expect everyday there will be a lot customers come in to buy your stuffs.
even there are days no customers.
I even ask a shop owner about his life etc while chit chat.
He told me everyone see one another like very " good " but who know the hard ship behind.
He told me after completed his study straight away open this shop sell products.

Recently I just quit my job which I have doing for 15 years in the same company.
My parents still ask me go look out for a job , beside doing my IM stuffs.
I just " told them ok " because I also take this opportunity to take a break on the same time build up my site and promote on social medias

Ok Guys please pray for me strike lottery sometimes I do play

I do think if someone currently has a job and is venturing into the IM world, that they shouldn't quit their job until they make a good steady income.

In my case, I do want to get my degree in college (a year left) as a backup measure.

yes true , a lot IM here will say the same thing.
If your IM haven't provide a good steady income better stay back don't quit.

hmm , like that is best to work first than go IM full time.
If you now managed to earn a decent constant 2 to 3 k or even more per month.
Than I should say , don't go out work stick to your IM.

presently I just live on my savings and earnings from IM.

I think every person in the world has clicked on a link at some point in their lives that said, "Make $877 a Day from Home in Your Spare Time!" or "Get Paid $150/hr for Filling Out Surveys!" There's only so much of that the average person can take before they catch on and begin to really hate the scam artists of the world who make big promises and never deliver.

So naturally, your parents think one of two things-

1) You are one of those degenerate scam artists or
2) You are about to get hustled by one of those degenerate scam artists

People just can't imagine any other outcome because of their own experiences. And 10 years ago, that sort of bothered me...but it really doesn't matter either way. My job is to write great copy that my intended customers will connect with, so that's all I really worry about anymore. What other people believe really doesn't matter.

Well, they're not entirely wrong in the regard that there are scammers in the IM world. That being said, there are scammers everywhere, you just have to be smart to know about them (in the IM world and anywhere else).

LMAO, I just noticed that you're from Queens too. I've never been there but I've seen enough Eddie Murphy movies to know why your parents are worried. I'm sure it's a great town and all but Hollywood makes it seem like a mafia-filled war-zone.

The Internet is full of get rich scams and I would say most people have probably fell victim to it at some point? I know this happened to me years ago and I got out of internet marketing for almost 5 years. It wasn't until I saw the results that you can get from having your own website that I started to believe in the power of networking again. I also had to deal with this when I started and I have mostly been doing it in my spare time anymore. It is really just a matter of getting traffic to your websites and if you are already making that kind of money with adsense, you must be on the right track. I would say stick with it until you are making more than you would working and then you can surprise them whenever you get your own place or a new car. They probably just want the best for you, but you could even prove them all wrong if you keep it going because the sky is the limit if you can get your offers in front of enough people

Keep doing what you're doing and don't care about what other people think. Your parents are not being mean, they just don't know much about how stuff works in online world. You can try and explain it to them, but that's not effective in most cases (speaking from my own experience).

I just bought myself a nice 135i convertible. Nothing too fancy as I didn't want to have to deal with making payments. If I have to keep the top up I don't drive it. I kept my old buggy for rainy days and for taking the dog to the vet and the groomer. She's never going to see the inside of the Bimmer. lol

I absolutely love, love, love that car. :-)

I didn't think they could play as bad as they did in game 5, but they managed to do just that in game 7. Yes, they had injuries (especially on defense, moreso with McD, and then add in Zucc's contusion injury), but that's still no excuse to go 1-3 at home in the ECF, and get shutout twice at home while playing completely flat.

135i is a very nice car! I think I may end up leasing the first car I get.

Agreed.

Even if you try to explain it as best you can, they likely just end up having more questions. Best I have told them is that Google has a program where you get paid for advertisements on your site. Since they know of Google and how trustworthy they are - they're more inclined to think it's sustainable, but still having doubts.

This is a common problem. Its all past conditioning by others. I would say show them your actual results and that's when they will see you are serious. Without the results its hard to justify your case.

In my own experience, showing income results hasn't helped one bit with those who don't understand what I'm doing. They just grew up during different times and developed different mindsets.

I'm 30 years old and making a decent consistent income online. Yet I still have people like my uncle who tell me to 'get a real job and quit playing with my computer'.

Not much you can really do about that. Just keep doing what you're doing. If you're making money off of your Adsense sites, then you've already reached a level of success, and doing better than the majority of marketers trying to make it in the IM world.

Move to a different state, stop talking about the business, get a grocery store job, and make people think you're not doing anything with your life.

Then 3 years later come back to the family with the latest Lexus SUV and show them how much you're shining on them. They will glorify you then, everyone will feel like leeches from the way that they cling on to you (the expert) for money.

Then you will be the hot sh*t.

Believe in yourself and the industry you are in. Both are the future.

I am in my 50s and a Chartered Civil Engineer. I have stopped doing that as I am sick of selling my time and being stressed by other people's problems.

Don't be a sucker to the corporate route, unless you are a shark you are screwed.

Same here. My parents and family don't really support what I do, but they have no problem asking me for money. At the end of the day, you just have to decide what makes you happy and then go and do it.

However, don't expect it to be easy, starting a successful online business and maintaining it is no easy task. It will require a lot of self-discipline and perseverance because you won't have a boss over your shoulder telling you what to do, and you're not guaranteed a paycheck at the end of the week.

I listened to friends and family tell me how I was chasing a "pipe dream" for almost 4 years and how I ought to be looking for a "real" job instead of wasting my time "playing" with my computer.

Well, it's now 3 years later and at family functions nobody says anything like that to me anymore.

Now all they want to do is ask exactly what it is I do and since I have so much free time would I mind showing them how to do it because they would love to make their own hours and be their own boss, etc!

And OH DOES IT FEEL GOOD!

Making real money online is not easy, in my opinion unless you have a serious competitive advantage you'll either just scrape by as you consistently fight for attention with everybody else who's blasting out emails, or buying traffic to their website.

I struggled to build any solid foundation online until I seriously worked hard to set myself apart from everybody else who can throw up websites and send lots of emails out. The mindset here is to follow what everybody else is doing, yet that mindset is what keeps people in 9-5 jobs. I say don't be scared to run in the opposite direction if you want above par results.

Don't worry about them. They don't understand and won't until they see you living off of it completely on your own (as in moved out in your own place paying all of your bills). Even then, they still won't fully get it.

Just focus on your goals and make one of them to be that you're making more money per month than you would be at whatever job you could get when you get out of school.

And if anything, do BOTH so you can really be raking it in until your online business is netting you $100K+ per year.

It costs a lot of money to live in Queens or just about anywhere in NY.

But don't do anything just to please them either.
