Question for affiliate marketing pros.

Just wondering..

Do I need to purchase a domain for the various niches I'd like to work, or can I get just as much mileage with a sub-domain?

I really don't have the money to go out & buy a boat load of domains.

Thanks.

Pete

    Here's what I do:

    1. I buy a generic domain from godaddy. One i bought is instant-online-tips.com.

    2. In the admin area (or cpanel of other host) I can set up subdomains. I think godaddy lets you do up to 99. So I create something like realestate.instant-online-tips or stopsmoking.instant-online-tips.com, or weightloss.instant-online-tips.com. etc. You can set up each subdomain to forward to a site of your choice, or the page of your choice withing a site you already have.

Saves a ton of money and has worked well for me.

Thanks for the tip! I can do that with my HostGator account where I've got TONS of room.

I'll give it a try and see what happens.

I agree with separate domains for each product. I sell a lot on Clickbank and if you have sub-domains only the first one ever gets shown so affiliates won't see your other products. Maybe they aren't interested in that one but won't ever see the one that may interest them. It can get a little pricey with separate accounts and fee for each, but in the long run you're better off. And like Mr Keyword Research Guru said, you can sell them easier if you decide to.

Have you tried .info domains? They are only about a dollar each for the first year. Since you're on Hostgator, I know that they will allow you to point an unlimited number of domains at their servers.

I once read that .info domains do not get good search engine results but I have found that some of my .info domains do very well, even compared to my .com domains.

Pete, let's get serious for a moment.

If you're not willing to invest $10 for a domain -- and don't see yourself getting a MASSIVE return on that investment -- then why even bother with affiliate marketing?

You only need one to start. Invest $10. Make it profitable. Reinvest the profits.
