Find blogs relevant to your niche, read a few articles and when leaving a comment, make sure to include the link to your website in the "Website" field of the comments box.

The key is to post genuine stuff without sounding like you're just making a post for the sake of getting a link. Don't say things like "Great post" or "Interesting article".

Read the article properly, possibly highlight a few points and post your opinion.

It's not really worth it unless the blogs you're commenting on are unique, have good PR, and hopefully not very many other comments. It also helps if the comment links are dofollow which they aren't by default in Wordpress. Blog commenting can be good, but it can also be extremely spammy. Especially if you use software like Scrapebox!

Yes! Agree with fpforum. Do not comment on sites woth low pr, 'coz I've heard that it can also pull you down. Just not sure if that's really true or just hearsay.

Agree, its not worth it unless the sites have very high volumes of targeted traffic to your niche, and you are comment #1 or #2 on the list.

I do it a bit for the site in my signature. There are thousands of travel websites, and everyone wants to know how to work anywhere in the world from their laptop, so I often get the first comment and a little bit of traffic. I normally don't even post the link, people just are interested in my genuine comment and click on my name.

I actually do quite well out of blog commenting :-) it is good for seo and the less you know about how blog commenting for seo works the better it is for seo.

I comment on blogs that are useful to my niche and also comment on blogs in a way that the readers of those blogs are getting useful comments.....

It's a good way of driving traffic and also building a brand in a niche

Blog commenting is one of the many types of content marketing methods I've used extensively over the years, with a huge amount of success. Significantly, this is still an "undiscovered" traffic source when fully leveraged and unleashed; even among so-called marketing "gurus".

For best results the blog comment really needs to be more like an article of at least 300 words, or as much as allowed. Ideally, consider your comment (ie article) to be an extension of the original post. And as mentioned here in this thread previously, you must be the first or second to comment. By subscribing to the blogs, you most likely will be notified of new posts.

For starters go to blogs relevant to your niche(s) and post comments that compliment the bloggers, adding your own input that increases the value of the post. Make sure your comments are at least 300 words long. You want to make an impact. Wait a few days, then follow each of the bloggers on Twitter. After a few days or so ask them to tweet your articles. If the articles are good, almost all of them will comply with your request.

It is important to build a relationship with bloggers who have large audiences. Post regularly with great content relevant to the bloggers' topic. If you write valuable comments on a regular basis, they will trust what you say. You will make friends with the blogger and his audience. Apart from all these advantages, you will also be building social proof.

What happens now perhaps is seldom considered by most marketers. When someone Googles your name (or brand) they will come across all these comments you have posted. It builds your authority and online reputation. You come out as someone who is knowledgeable in your niche(s).

The main idea behind blog commenting is not to gain a backlink or to drive traffic. Our goal is to brand ourselves, to increase our visibility in the online world. You need to think of it like old-school advertising. Remember, do not use blog commenting to sell. We use it to build relationships.

Matt Cutts said to use your name as the anchor text in comments so it will appear naturally. Avoid the temptation to use things like "Bob's Burgers" or "Best Hamburgers in New York!". That's an immediate red flag and in most cases, the site's moderator will block those kinds of attempts anyway.

Cutts also said that Google will usually count comment links if the following elements are present-

          1) Its a real comment that adds to the discussion.
          2) The site is reputable and has lots of conversations.
          3) These backlinks make up a small percentage of your overall profile.
          4) People reply to your comment or likes/+1's it.

In other words, almost nothing can be gained from using automated software to spam out, "Great article! I learned a lot and I'll definitely visit this site from now on!"

Or this one, which is even worse- "Thank you for posting this! If you want to learn more, visit www.Whatever.com!"

Those days are long gone and in many cases, they will count against you and have to be disavowed. So if you're going to go for the signature links, make them natural and contribute something that others will learn from.

          I hope that helps.

In addition to the above, I have found an effective technique for branding is to use pseudonyms that are eponymous with your niches. Readers generally want to see a name associated with comments/articles. In this sense your "name" is your brand. As your presence on blogs grow, consider expanding your brand into other arenas and wider audiences through guest posting and article syndication: http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ml#post9679920

Blog commenting is a long term strategy to build both free traffic and as mentioned above, a brand name. Thanks myob on the recommendation of writing a comment of at least 300 words. This would mean writing another mini post. Haha.

Of course, don't expect to see blog commenting to have result immediately, with consistent effort, the effect will snowball

Couldn't agree more, keep reading and adding value information to the post you're reading and in time you'll get value traffic to your own site, the referrals might not be on the thousands at first, but I keep getting traffic from years ago to my sites on comments I did at the time, those prospects will be interested in knowing more about your niche/market.

Comments on high traffic blogs within your niche will drive traffic-it isn't really all that complicated....write something insightful, interesting etc. If you know what you're talking about and you're writing like a regular human being.....people will click on those links-

If you use blog comments as a SYSTEMATIC LIST BUILDING TECHNIQUE, you will develop something very powerful.

--1-- Your comments must ADD VALUE

--2-- Enter an url in the website box that leads directly to your email opt-in list.

Create a separate page if you have to.

When you make high quality comments that are meaningful and add relevant info
to the discussion, MANY will click on your name (Brand yourself) to check you
out. Your opt-in list is GUARANTEED to grow with TARGETED TRAFFIC.

For a variation of this strategy check out a recent post from my blog:

In a sense, blog commenting is like a miniature version of Article Marketing via Syndication.

You market yourself on a smaller, discreeter level with short commentary. But it can be quite effective if you are skilled in saying a whole lot in a small amount of space

I would dedicate one hour every week just to comment on several websites (quality, interesting comments, of course).

Pretend that this hour is part of your work routine. It's just one more thing within your job description.

To make it even easier, do you remember or ever knew "iGoogle?" It let you store many websites in a grid, showing you when they were updated in real-time.

iGoogle doesnt exist anymore, but there are alternatives (ighome.com, for example).

So use that free service, add a bunch of niche websites, and comment on all of them once a week. Again, you will always be kept up to date because all the latest articles will automatically show up in real-time.

Hey, When you want to get good lead or visitor for your commenting work then i thoght you will follow those do and Not do suggestion. Hope that help you.

    Do:

    • Write meaningful comments. Have something real to say. You should be trying to genuinely add to the conversation.
    • Push the envelope. Don’t be afraid to show a different perspective, raise some eyebrows, or make people think. This is exactly the kind of thing that helps people remember you.
    • Be playful. Not every comment has to be a serious, strategic or life-changing. Appropriate comedic relief is more than welcome on most blogs.
    • Connect. Commenting is an underutilized networking technique. It allows people to find common ground almost instantly.
    Don’t:

    • Leave a generic comment. Even if it’s just a “thank you for this post” comment, elaborate on the parts of the content you liked most. Add to the conversation.
    • Be tasteless. If you have a different opinion, say so in a way that’s respectful of other people’s views – and be prepared to back it up in a civil way.
    • Comment without reading the post. You’re only going to look clueless or silly when you get corrected on something you say in your comment.
    • Link drop. Unless the link is very relevant to the discussion at hand, your comment will almost certainly be received as self-promotional and might not even published at all.

What I have done in the past was when I had some good information on any topic, I would find a good and reputable site with pertinent articles on that matter and then I would use of the main articles and leave a comment which was information rich, I would add my website in the "Your website" field and from that hot topic I would get a decent kind of traffic to my website.
This trick really works and of course you are contributing with the information you share.

Actually, in my experience, there are no venues more powerful than getting your comments/articles/content accepted by third parties who already are targeting your reading audience. Whether it's blog commenting, guest posting, feature articles in online/offline publications, etc, there is a subtle but very powerful implied endorsement conveyed to the reading audience of these outlets.

Even paying for article space in relevant publications is far better than any type of advertising that I know. And blog commenting is perhaps the least expensive method for cracking and/or testing virtually any niche. Of key importance for this to work effectively is to make your comments an extension of bloggers' posts, or even better - as if they are guest posts.

What I suggest is to use a systematic approach. Choose say 10-20 blogs and post your comments regularly at least every week (daily if possible). And as I mentioned earlier in this thread, follow the blogger on Twitter and ask him/her to tweet one or more of your articles.

Just make sure your comments bring value to the bloggers' reading audience. Your primary objective should be to establish a relationship with the blogger. Start by tweeting, liking and commenting on every post he/she publishes. With each action, you are contributing value to the blogger. It’s similar to exchanging gifts in the real world.

With time, the blogger will recognize you as an active member of the community or a supporting friend. Once, you are in the limelight, the blogger may befriend you and will help you succeed. This actually opens you up to a lot of opportunities.

Here's just a few: No waiting time for your comment to get approved, links inside comment becomes acceptable, guest posting/ interview opportunities, banner advertising priority, mentions on blog and social networks, a new friend with a huge audience. This and more has happened to me literally tens of thousands of times over the years.

Actually, if I can venture to other forms of commenting, using youtube comments can be pretty nifty depending on your market/niche.

I once used a woman who just posted comments on youtube all day. It wasn't crap either. I reviewed her work and the people who visited my site were willing to engage with me. Pretty remarkable if you think about it.

Not sure if that works now, though, but at the time it was pretty solid for quality traffic. It had to be done consistently and over time (meaning that the woman's work was continuous) but it definitely worked.

I think the overall message to take from this is that any form of getting your link looked at by curious eye balls, whether it's in an article, a comment, video...whatever, can be useful for relevant traffic generation. You might have to be creative sometimes, but no one said this stuff would be easy lol.

    My advice,

Blog commenting, imo, only works when you are the first person to comment on a blog. Most people don't go past the 3rd comment when scrolling so make sure you're among the top comments.

Using Gravatar is a must as it grabs attention.

Don't comment something generic, but add value. Read the post and try to fill the gaps.

Blog comments is indeed a good method to generate traffic but only when done right.

Well I'm not a "newbie" and I do it daily. The reality is.. it is WORK ( god forbid ) and since work is a "Task" and tasks generally all require some sort of systematic pattern for completion this is where many fail

If you are going to comment on blogs...

#1 seek out sites that are the same or very similar to your site in CONTEXT. - commenting to comment will work against you and not for you.

Use sites such as icerocket and blogsearchengine and searchblogspot, and google.com/blogsearch and technorati to name just a few. - these site will help you pin point potential context match sites for you to look at.

#2 I would say NEVER leave a URL that points directly to the home page of your site. don't understand this rule refer to #1

#3 Don't ever leave a URL in the comment itself, unless it is pointing to a piece of content that IS NOT your own. ( and if you are on top of your game, you will have commented on this 4th party article as well - the site you are commenting on, the site you are linking to, and the page on your site the 4th party site comment is linked to is unified in CONTEXT and hopefully targeting the same post on your site )

#4 The user name... Think of this, Google last year dropped "Authorship", so there has to be a way that somehow they would still be able to track this. Well hmm Every blog post has an Author right? Every Social profile requires a name right? Schema tags can be added to a post to reinforce this right? So what should the user name on a comment be? The one that matches the online trail of user names for that site, and its associated social properties. ( we will assume they match across the board )

#5 as already commented here. you want to leave content of value. you want to leave content that relates in context to the post you are commenting on, and if you are really good, it will relate in context to the URL you are linking to.

Commenting in terms of a tool to gain traffic and SEO effect is not "work" it is a skill. It is not about the effort, it is about the return in exchange for your efforts. If everyone focused less on "Work" and more into the concepts and ideas of dedication and the drive to succeed, this thread would not be 80% struggle and 20% success.

Use blog commenting to build your CREDIBILITY.

    Don't worry about getting clicks.

Your focus should be to get the community to consider you an AUTHORITY.

Once you are able to achieve that, all sorts of doors open to you.

Yes, these doors can lead to MASSIVE TRAFFIC.

I don't understand why people are afraid of hard work. The reality is nothing comes easy. You either pay for traffic with money or you pay with your time and efforts. Either way it cost you something.
