Clickbank Mystery - Affiliates I Need Your Help!

Hello All,
I have a Clickbank Mystery I need solved. I was trying an affiliate link and as you know after you go to the affiliate site through your link it may show your hoplink in the address bar. You can also go click the order button and scroll to the bottom of the Clickbank order page to see if you are the affiliate.

Well I tried this Clickbank site:

http://CLICKBANKID.instpop.hop.clickbank.net

I used one of my Clickbank ids and put this info in the address bar and went to the site. I clicked order and went to the bottom of the clickbank order form and I see affiliate=mike0346 and that is not my affiliate id, my affiliate id is totally different. I cleared my cookies and tried again and the same thing happens.

Is this somebody hijacking a clickbank product? Can anyone try the link above with your affiliate id to see if you get your affiliate id at the bottom of the Clickbank order page like you should?

Can anyone help me figure this one out???

Thanks for your help!

Mike

Looks like the cookies are being overwritten, I suspect by the owner of the site.

Naughty vendor up to tricks I guess!

Well, the URL of BUY button is www_dot_clickbank_DOT_net_stupid_forum_limitation_ / sell.cgi?link=mcallen1/1/Instant PopOver&seed=3bf5af570404ed658ce9158b7b336f79' That certainly does not look like a legit CB purchase URL, which should be like 1.instpop.... The part with "seed=3bf5af570404ed658ce9158b7b336f79" seems like the one overriding the cookie. Looks like the guy hacked CB redirects, bypassed standard link, and used the straight order link with his own (or someone related to him) cookie. Looks like a ClickBank fraud, although cannot say for sure. You may want to hint CB on that, they'll know for sure.

I just saw this video from Youtube the other day explaining how an adware infected computer would do that.

That is a different situation - where the customer's computer is infected.

The OP is referring to a problem at the vendor site.

Cool video Ryan700 but I have 10 Clickbank sites and they all work ok and I have tried a bunch of products from the clickbank marketplace and they all work ok. I also have a great anti virus program that updates everyday.

Can you try what I mentioned above to see if it happens to you. I think it a problem with the vendors site.

I tried it and the same thing happened to me and I have a Mac. Not sure if adware can infect Macs. This is totally different from what happened on the video. When I went to your affiliate page it didn't load twice so I would say something else is going on.

Craig thanks for trying. Seems someone hijacked the vendors site.

I notice at the homepage of this site that it is:
      www.site.com/index1.php

when I tried it the second time I got to:
      www.site.com/index3.php

so naturally I tried it with index2.php and it is the same homepage. I don't get that. Might be nothing.

If it's not in the Marketplace and if the affiliate program
is not otherwise open to anyone (e.g to a private
group) then the vendor has done nothing wrong.

I can't find it listed in the Marketplace, either.

However, I went to it through my affiliate link and it did come up with that mike affiliate id down the bottom.

It also registered as a hop in my Clickbank analytics so it must be in the Marketplace somewhere?

No, you can have a ClickBank account with an affiliate program
(i.e with non-zero commission) but you don't have to have it
              appear in the Marketplace.

    This seems to be endemic.

I have been using seven (7) short and cloaked urls for Clickbank products. One product had 1,529 clicks and altogether there were over 6,500 clicks to these links over a seven or eight month period - not a single sale.

You might not like what I say - but I believe it.
Build it, make money, then build some more

      That's an entirely different argument.

If your ClickBank id shows on the order form you will get
      commission if a sale occurs.

        Hey all,

I just came across this post today, and I just contact Clickbank about it too. They usually respond quickly to me so we'll see what they say.

Anyway, I wanted to let everyone know that this hoplink is NOT the correct hoplink for the product being sold there. I'm not actually sure who's product ID name is: "instpop"

That's not ours. As you can see on the webpage, the REAL product ID is: mcallen1

If you use the correct hoplink for the product, you'll notice that the affiliate cookie is placed correctly. Here's the REAL link: http://CLICKBANKID.mcallen1.hop.clickbank.net

Whoever owns that "instpop" product ID is definitely pulling some black hat stuff and needs to stop.

Hopefully Clickbank will sort this out once they get my email.

It looks like some very shady stuff. He probably signed up as a vendor, and then put up a redirect script w/ his affiliate id to the original hoplink. There's no way that Clickbank should be allowing this one.

So I spoke with Clickbank about it and they said that this is what appears to be the case.

The affiliate owns a vender ID of instpop. Then, they're running their affiliate ID (the mike0346 one) through that vendor ID, and preventing others from overwriting his cookie.

Honestly, if you guys just use the right affiliate link, this shouldn't be a problem. The instpop vender ID is NOT the correct ID for the product at this site.

      Use http://YOURAFFILIATEID.mcallen1.hop.clickbank.net

That is the correct affiliate link for that product. So if you just use that one, you'll be all set.

        THis thread has resurfaced.
So MAtt is Clickbank not going to do something about this. Is it whitehat. Seems he's taking advantage of people who can't find your site in clickbank and you have no affiliate link on your site so some people guess at it and they may come up with instpop. It seems something like when someone wants to try to get ebay traffic by registering ebat.com to capitalize on misspellings. Maybe he is not breaking rules if their not going to do something about it.

Same thing happens to me, however the this ClickBank ID does not show up anywhere in the marketplace feed provided this week from CB and I could not find any attempts recruit affiliates on the site mentioned.
    Looks like a non issue.
ClickBank offers E-commerce capabilities, having affiliates does not appear to be a requirement.

Interesting, if that's the case, ClickBank has a bug when it somehow treats your affiliate id as vendor id.

Hey, can you share the secret, why do you use that starnge link with the seed (pointing directly to ClickBank with
    sell.cgi? link=mcallen1/1/Instant PopOver&seed=0874b202293f56f3493c37112bd71efe in the end)
instead of the standard CB product order link? Is there any good reason to do so?

There's no secret with what I'm doing... The link there is an old link structure of Clickbank's from a while ago. We just haven't changed it since then. It was created a while ago and for tracking too. Since we have that link in MULTIPLE pages, since it works just fine, and since there's no need to change it, we haven't taken the time to make the updates to the new "style".

Maybe you shouldn't be trying to guess the vendor id. Is that white hat? Sounds almost like hacking. I understand there is no malicious intent, but there must be some legitimate way to find the vendor id and be sure you are promoting the correct link.

Maybe email the vendor or do a google search for other affiliates promoting the product.
