Blogger with Own Domain

The course I am doing recommend using blogger with your own domain name rather than WP. Their reasoning is that blogger is favored by Google on searches as it is owned by Google. I see a lot of threads here recommending WP but these are two or three years ago and things may have changed.

    I'd drop the course, then.

    The main problems with Blogspot:

    1. You don't own the blog. It can be taken away.
    2. You look unprofessional. Hurts traffic growth & sales conversions.
    3. You have no support for CMS extensions. See above (2).

Google favours a good site over a bad site, irrespective of CMS employed.

I believe may be I should ditch the course 1800 pounds for this course and they have no idea about copyright. The only reason I am sticking with them is to expose them at he end and warn others.

I like your signature "We Go the Extra Mile" being not good for a taxi company.

My friend had a construction company in Hawaii it was called Blockhead Construction, the slogan was "Slow but Expensive".

One thing you have to be careful of is the Terms Of Service when using those services especially the free ones.

Most of them don't want you to sell anything on the site..

              Make sure you read them.

Google's ULTIMATE goal is to END Search

When you put in a search request they want the first page results primarily the first result to answer the inquiry.

It's not about who favors who its more so a concern is are you providing good content and answering the keyword to the fullest.

Google will favor you if you provide valuable content and answer the inquiry without trying any dumb tricks

I'm sorry to say that you've been misinformed by the course you're on.

Blogger does not automatically rank higher just because it's owned by Google. In fact, it continues to decrease in popularity, while WordPress reigns supreme.

I highly recommend self-hosting a WordPress blog. That way, you own the website and can monetize it as you please.

Blogspot can give you a lot of traffic from google (Yes is true, because i have a blog and every month ginme 1000 weekly traffic for free from google) i recomend more using blogspot in niche, not to promote work at home and making money products, the more unique you create you blogspot, the more results you can get with google.

If you are planing in creating a business is more recomend to use Wordpress.org (Because you become you own boss) you can post any content that you want, without problem.

Andre makes some really great points.

I will say, though, if you're even remotely new to IM, Stephen, I'd avoid too much concern over SEO. You'll be months waiting to receive any ROI. (Video SEO would be a different story.) If I were you, I'd stick to learning a few key areas and go from there:

    1. Site Development.
    2. Email Marketing.
    3. Social Marketing.
    4. Content Creation.
    5. Ad Copy.
    6. Viral Marketing.

Once you get good at those, SEO will actually be a lot easier, since these days social signals play an immensely strong role. Could be argued (pretty easily), the biggest role.

OMFG, you spent almost 2 grand on a course that tells you to use Blogger, because Google favours it?

Get a refund, if you can, or if not, then make sure to send some gorilla poop to their head office > poopsenders - the ULTIMATE gag gift - SWEET revenge at its finest

Any course that tells you to lick Google's a$$ so you can get ranked higher is retarded. How can you make your business dependant on something that you have no control over? Does that make any sense to you?

There's a right reason why people recommend self-hosted Wordpress blogs, because you know it's YOURS and no one can mess around with it. Who cares what Google likes or doesn't?

If you are blogging to satisfy Google, then you might as well stop now and get back to your day job. Think of traffic generation methods that are NOT dependant on Google - forums, socials, blog comments, guest posting, etc. That's how you get exposure, not Google...

I heard of a lady who 'invested' [5 YEARS] into blogger. Then for some reason, all her stuff got pulled down. Blogger also doesn't like affiliate links that much.

Do yourself a favor and forget that course (or at least the part about telling you to use blogger).

Get your own domain and WP.

Good content and a competent blogger is favored by Google.

Surprisingly, these same things are also favored by Bing and Yahoo.
