Content Marketing

by Tyler Hall 21 replies
I believe it is the wave of the future. When used along side SEO it can be a powerful tool. I conducted a quick search on the WarriorForum and didn't find any topics on the subject.

Is this not a big deal here at WarriorForum? Have there been any discussions on the subject? What do you feel about content marketing? Is it a fad or here to stay?

Anyone have questions?

Just trying to strike up a general conversation on the matter.

I'm with you. I talk about it quite a lot on WF - bringing it up within threads - and devote a lot of energy to it each day. No questions to ask, but I'd be interested to see how this thread shapes up.

Content Marketing is just a cute name for what internet marketing is. It's also been called Inbound Marketing, Article Marketing, Blogging, etc.

They're just cute terms and woo. People who claim differences are just trying to sound smart, play semantics...or regurgitating what the lastest guru posted on a popular blog.

Marketing is marketing is marketing. Product, Place, Price. It boils down to traditional media (offline) and new media (online).

People love to over-complicate things. So yes, it's here to stay as long as people keep sharing data online...or otherwise publishing any kind of *content* online.

Well, that told us. Now we've got that out of the way - let the sensible discussion begin.

Actually, content marketing is a type of internet marketing. Internet marketing encompasses a wide variety of strategies and tools. But blogging in itself is not content marketing. It is, instead, a type of content marketing. Inbound marketing is also a type of marketing that may or may not incorporate content marketing as a strategy.

Fun fact: Marketing is a branch of advertising that deals with research. How and why it evolved to something else on the Internet is a mystery to me.

Content marketing only works if you have a ton of it out there.

One thing I do wish people talked about more in this space....good content does create a ton of good links by itself. Sure, link building does bring in more links.....but for all the conversation about how to get a few good links here on WF, sometimes, having simply the best article about something does the trick by itself.

Heck, getting a link on Wikipedia is no-follow, but generally leads to at least 50 do-follow links from other sites over time.

I am beginning to hate phrases like "Internet Marketing" "Affiliate Marketing" "Content Marketing" these phrases have seem to become magical for some reason...

The phrase is exactly what it says

Internet Marketing is Marketing your product or service on the internet.

Content Marketing is Marketing by using content.

The way the world is going now and the technology that we have available things are getting better and more user friendly...

Same goes with websites, ebooks, products, etc...

You have to have good content on anything to get an audience.

You have to provide value through your content.

      Everything is information and content.

Warrior forum is a forum with good CONTENT that is marketed to other marketers.

This doesn't feel like a real question

I just typed content marketing into the search function and it came back with 8353 results. Maybe your technique is a little off.

    Here's a secret.

Every method of marketing is a form of content marketing! Isn't it?

Videos are content, audio is content, graphics are content, word of mouth contains content, so does affiliate marketing, direct response marketing and all the rest. Yes, I'm using a pretty loose definition of "content" but every offer is put before a buyer in some way and I say that's called content.

    Dictionary definition:
content: something that is to be expressed through some medium, as speech, writing, or any of various arts

There seems to be a "wee bit" of misunderstanding in this vicinity. Content marketing is a "branch of" marketing; just like microeconomics is a branch of economics.

To get a better understanding of content marketing:

    What is Content Marketing?

Some of the angry responses are quite bizarre. Truly.

      That article states:

"Content marketing is a strategic marketing approach focused on creating and distributing valuable, relevant, and consistent content to attract and retain a clearly-defined audience — and, ultimately, to drive profitable customer action."

I thought that has been the purpose of blogging, video blogging, image sharing, etc...for most marketers for a long time. Even before that definition became popular.

Technically, article marketing would then be defined as a subset of content marketing, at least by that definition.

Exactly content marketing is a lot more then just sharing top quality content.

The previous responses pretty much gave me the info I was looking for in the is post.

I'll keep reading to see if anything interesting came up.

DRP perfectly explained it in his post. People like to complicate things and come up with 20 different silly names for the same thing, i.e. content marketing, article marketing, content distribution, etc, etc.

If you publish an article anywhere on the Internet, whether it's for promoting a product or getting a backlink or just putting your piece of writing out there, you're marketing that content - simple.

If you're looking for a REAL definition, it depends on who you ask

SEO guys will give an SEO-centric answer

Link spammers will give an answer that's more in keeping with their perspective

Personally, I'd use an END USER answer.

What does an END USER say?

Content marketing is all about USEFUL content they can take ACTION ON and leads to a useful CREDIBLE brand.

Content is king. Always has been, always will. Content is what gives the little guy the ability to compete with the big guys.

If you can produce good, quality content you will always come out ahead. Too many companies (large and small) cut corners by posting old, outdated, or just plain out spammy content.

With the growth in mobile traffic, there are more channels than ever to produce your content.
