Ignorance vs Blindness?
I'm looking for the name of a phenomenon to sell to business owners. But I don't know what it's called. If I describe it, perhaps you might know it?
It's when you become so familiar with a widget that you no longer see it's faults. But then when you compare the widget to a new widget, all of a sudden the old widget looks awful.
For example, imagine you think everything is just fine with your teeth. But then you go to a dentist, and he shows you the average tooth colour on a chart and then compares it to your own teeth.
Your teeth then look brown in comparision. Then when you leave the dentist, all you can think of is how brown your teeth look nowadays.
But before your dental trip, you were completely ignorant to this fact.
What is this called? Familiraity blindness. Situational ignorance? Perception without awareness?
Any ideas?
