    Why not combine both? Building your list can be done with the help of blogging. Put a subscription form on your blog, give something to people to optin to your list (keep in mind, "what's in it for them" to have them optin to your list). In long term both will pay you handsome.

    Blogging is just a marketing strategy internet marketers use to build an email list. Buying advertising on Facebook or Google is another way to build an email list. If you want to build a lucrative online business you need to build an email list of people that know,like and trust you. Blogging and listbuilding work in tandem...

    Get the best of both worlds and do both...

    As writing in a blog is another way to get people on your list.

    However, if I had to choose one over the other...

    It would be list building beyond a shadow of a doubt.

    It´s more powerful to build your own list

    the blogging method takes even a year to profit and google can take it away from you any time...
    When you build your list, is yours, nobody can take it away from you.

    List building is by far the better option, one of the only ways to capture an audience for later promotion through blogging IS list building, and building a successful business requires you to do just that.

    Definitely do both! I decided at the start to use my blog as the hub of my business and build my list through it.

    Here's How I Do This


    I 'invite' people from lots of different places back to the blog so they can find out about my business. They come through 'free' traffic like Facebook and Twitter, and also through 'paid' traffic such as Solo Ads. I also post regularly to my blog and tell everyone on Twitter, Facebook and other Social Media platforms about my new post with a link. I also email my growing list with the link.

    I never try to sell on my blog. It is the place where I try to build Know, Like and Trust with people just to get them engaged.

    I do this with a free high-value Front End Offer on the blog - in my case a free video course. People access the videos from the blog opt-in form, and go on to my list. They then receive regular emails containing each free video in sequence, plus they get a 'Call To Action' to buy my front end offer.

    This leads on to further products in the funnel - whether they buy or not - and this process goes on in the auto-responder for about two months. At some point they opt-in to other free products and are moved to another funnel which goes on up to the back end hi ticket sales of $1000 and more.

    It takes time to create all this, but that's my way of building a sustainable business with recurring income, as some of the mid-ticket sales are monthly subscriptions. Hope this helps...

    Money is in the list. Both work hand in hand. The best way is blogging while building a list. Tends to be very effective.

    Blogging allows you to build trust/entertain with your audience and list building allows you to continually market to them.

    Plan everything before creating your assets

    Identify your target market, create a content plan, identify your traffic sources

    Once you get to execute your plan, that's the time to test out your conversions while
    scaling

        I didn't say that you won't make six figures without it either.

        The strategy that I mentioned earlier are the strategies being used by top online brands

        example:

        buzzfeed
        mashable
        michaelhyatt

        etc...

        It's a strategy to build your brand online and as a result can allow you to make six figures.

        YOU CAN be successful with just building your list alone...

        I have lots of friends making money just by list building.

    No doubt list building is the most sustainable online business model. Blogging is almost on the mercy of big G. Don't put all your eggs in Google's basket.

      Certainly Agree with this strategy.

      Except of the blogging part...

      If you know how to do pixel tracking on facebook and use your content to build your
      audience then retarget them with your landing page... that would be a different story.

    I think both work really well together. But, if I could only choose one, I would focus on building a list. Free traffic resources to start off with...and then reinvest some of the revenue into some paid traffic methods.

    Personally speaking and others have articulated this as well, they go hand in hand. Really, there's no reason to not do both. A high quality blog, will help increase the % of people that opt into your email list. A good email list, will help drive traffic to your blog.

    Both can lead to income, although in different ways.

    There's no reason to choose.

    Of course the answer is both. Build your blog, monetize it and get traffic to it.

    If you have the money, go with paid advertising, it's quicker and more scalable. Obviously if you don't, you have to go with the free traffic.

    Then once you know how to do this stuff you can teach other people how to do it and build your list at the same time.

    You offer a report on how to build a successful blog or how to get traffic, in exchange for an email address. Then you'll have a list of customers.

    Once people are on your list, you can then drive them back to your blog, this gives you social proof.

    Essentially you will have to do both...

    It might not be blogging as such, but it will definitely involve some kind of content creation !

    But as the old saying goes... "The Money Is In The List" ;-)

    Blogging takes a long time to see results to build your list.

    So when you are just starting out and want to see results (leads and sales), I would seriously take a look at paid ads.

    You should definitely do both! With a blog, you can convert readers to subscribers. A research from Hubspot showed that companies that blog weekly grow their list twice as fast as companies that blog once a month.

    Hi There!


    I would have to agree on what most people are saying and that is to use both at the same time, while you are blogging you can be building a list from you efforts! You can always build your list with solo ads or ad swaps, the main thing here is to just keep doing it and over time it will sure build up.


    I been blogging for a number of years and it can take time to see results, but it sure can pay off in the long term, list building it a lot quicker and can be quite hard to understand how it all works, but if you look at all the big marketers you will see that All of them have got a huge list! List building when it's set up right and automated can see big commissions, this is where you can make money while you sleep because it's on autopilot! Which is what we all want and enjoy the most! So work on them together and you cant go wrong! Wish you all the best!

    Blogging and list building are usually not in the same category. Blogging is generally a part of the product and list building a part of the marketing.

    But to answer your question anyway......
    We'll assume a situation where a blog gets 10,000 daily uniques versus an email list with 10,000 daily opens. The blog should generate more revenues due to greater monetization options.
