How to sell more books on amazon & kindle

Hi fellow forum member!

I have searched this forum for information on this topic, but I have not found any threads that relates to my current situation. I'm not even sure if this thread is opened in the correct section of this forum.

I self-published my first book today on the create space platform own by amazon.com.

The listing price is $37 due to manufacturing cost, because the book is available in full color.

I haven't published the book on kindle yet because I'm not sure what to price the kindle book version, as the printed version of the book's production costs shocked me. I would really appreciate some suggestions with pricing for the kindle version of my book.

I wanted to write the book to increase my email subscriber list, but publishing it in black & white would just take away from the readers enjoyment of the book.

I have search engine optimized the content in the book and in the book's description, but what else can I do to generate sales very quickly?

As I mentioned above, I have search engine optimized the content of my book and the book's description to rank high in the amazon.com search engine, but I will only know in the next 3 to 5 days where it will rank in the amazon.com search results for my keywords. Currently my book is ranked at number 2 in the create space book store search results for my desired search term, but what else can I do to generate my book sales fast.

Please help me

WHAT NOW?

Big subject. Best tip: traffic platforms.

I'm no stranger to selling books. The key? A strong presence on socials.

This sounds like a typical WF answer, I know:

"How do I get traffic?" they ask! "Socials!" we scream!

It's an involved process, though, with a 101 ways of doing it.

    Here are 3 good ones:

    1. Develop a lively profile on Facebook, where you talk to your friends, and keep them in the loop about what you're up to: a healthy mixture of the your literary endeavours (including the writing process) and your day-to-day life.

    2. Grow a Facebook fan page, talking about helpful elements that relate to your books.

    3. Do step 2, but on Twitter!

Hi thanks for your suggestions, but do I create the niche facebook fan page for the book title, or for me as a recently published author?

You should create a FB page for the author NOT the title. If you create for a title then you are working harder not smarter as you will have to keep making them if you add more titles.

As far as your book goes $37 is a pretty lofty price for an unknown author when most self pubbed eBooks are selling for $.99 - $2.99 and physical counterparts for under $15. But you can always try I guess. Just push the social platforms...do a search on your niche topic and garner interest that way and consider FB advertising and other ads.

        Good luck!

Have you thought about taking the big book and breaking it down into smaller, more manageable and inexpensive books?

What about making a whole other smaller ebook, something shorter and not so picture heavy that will work on the Kindle? Set that up as permanently free by publishing it on Amazon, then go to draft2digital.com where you can set the price to $0, and price match it on Amazon.

I think all authors should have a social networking presence and a website.

I also think reviews play a part in sales. If you can get a few people to read the book and post honest reviews that could help with sales.

That $37 amazon price vs $2.99 on kindle is a huge chasm. I wouldn't want anyone to see this lol.

If you're book is truly worth $37 in printed form, then at least sell it on your website also, and charge $27 for it. But $2.99 will get you nowhere. Plus whether it's Createspace or Kindle.... you DON'T get access to each customers' name and email address for backend marketing.

So what will you really get out of $2.99 on kindle? I guess the best you can do is to include some links to affiliate products or your own products to try and get more sales.

There are royalty changes coming in July. Does anyone know if everyone is impacted by them? Or is it just rented books via Kindle Unlimited?

With the new changes, authors are paid based on what is read, and not based off the purchase. Is that just for borrowed books via Kindle Unlimited? What about people who just purchase the eBook?

That is a very good question, I will have to find out more about it and get back to you on that topic

It's only for books enrolled in KDP Select and it only affects borrows.

I'm a bit jealous this Thread is so hot as I posted the same thing last Fall and got about 3 responses. Not sure how these Threads get so much attention. Since nobody at all helped me figure out how to sell my 500+ page historical book on this site, I'll explain again my pangs.

    1. FB Ads DID NOT GET SALES.
    2. FB Groups do not want to be bothered with your products.
    3. Google Communities will ban you if you try and sell something there.
    4. Twitter = Blah. Barely got Followers that gave a crap.

I suggest doing pure SEO related things. Blog, YouTube, etc. Show up in searches, GET POSITIVE REVIEWS.

Most important, sell them in person. Get in front of people at a bookstore, try and get interviewed, be an authority on the subject and sell yourself not just the book. People by people not just products.
