Make a competition with cool prize for my website

Hi,

I have an idea how to promote my site Online Conversions.
This site is new and contains many converters and calculators, and I want increase its traffic significantly.

The idea is to create a completion in which the winner will get a new PlayStation 4.
The rules are simple: send me the name of the conversion that is the most useful for you in the site. Once I get your vote, you will be added to the participants list. The winner will be randomly picked, and will be announced one week after the completion begins.
A new Playstation 4 will cost me 399$.

What do you think about the idea?
Can I return the investment with the new visitors that will participate in the competion and later will return to my site?

    Well, what is your goal?

    Is it to build your awareness in the internet sphere (attract affiliates, and do long-term growth things), or just short-term conversions?

    For example, people might visit your website, and be part of the promotion, but a PS4 isn't going to draw in customers who aren't interested or in need of a calculator in the first place.

    What I mean by this is they're going to come to your site when they need something - not just because you put a flashy toy in front of them.

    This can be an incredibly powerful strategy as long as your content is helpful, powerful, and useful to your customer - this will drive traffic, but it doesn't mean the traffic will necessarily have any interest beyond winning a PS4, for example.

      @chrisnos My goal is to drive returning visitors meaning that the visitors will keep returning to my site because they find my conversions to be useful and not only because I give prizes.

        Your contest will be as successful as you are driving traffic to it and convincing that traffic to participate in your contest.

        To be honest, I don't see how this contest is going to keep visitors returning back to your site over and over again. What's the draw beyond the contest?

        Your customers should keep coming back because you offer them quality information in the niche . . . not because they want to win a contest. There is only one winner and all your other players are going to leave disappointed. That's no basis for a business.

          My purpose here is to make my online conversion site known to the public.

          I have quality converters and calculators on site, so I am sure that once people will know the site they will also come back

    I would suggest you use a solution like Rafflecopter (not affiliated with them) and integrate it with your autoresponder. Every time someone enters your contest, they will be automatically on your list. You can then keep in touch with them by sending them related and high quality content to keep them coming to your site.

    I have tried something similar in one of the niches and promoted a lot of CPA offers just doing that.

    Step it up a level. Rather than getting an entry for submitting there details make it that they get an entry by sharing a link to the site through social media, e.g. Facebook, Twitter etc.

    That way you should be getting even more visitors rather than just the ones who are already on your site.

    Let the visitors do some work for you to earn the prize.

      Great idea, much better then just a simple voting

      I will add to the participants list of the competition anyone that share the conversion he / she uses the most on social networks.
