What Keeps You Focused?

Today got caught off guard.

Had my day planned of what I needed to do for my business. Then my attention got drawn to a Facebook post about someone's results for clickbank sales or something. Then I started to look into how they were doing etc I totally lost focus of what I was meant to be doing and wasted loads of time.

What's your tips for staying focused, I guess one of mine is to leave Facebook alone until you have finished your work!

I know what you mean, Facebook can be really time consuming.

Some practices that help me to stay focused:

    - Have a things to do list with 3 top things that I need to get done today
    - Take breaks every 45 minutes
    - During work time, switch your phone off and minimize all possible distractions.
    - Do NOT multi-task. Humans were not made to multi-task, it is more effective to focus on one thing at a time and give it your 101%.

The key is clarity. If you have clarity in what needs to be done and a way to measure progress or results, your on the right track and there's no way to be distracted.

      Hey, thanks for the tips.

I heard taking regular breaks was a must, but haven't paid attention to that stuff.

I think I certainly would be more productive with 45 mins of laser targeted effort, than with 2hrs of trying to work, but my mind wondering.

      Thanks again.

I usually get off track when:

    1) I'm horny

    2) I'm tired

    3) After i've completed a muscle building workout

To stay focused when all 3 of these things hit me at once... i take a nap for 1 hour (to rest my body and mind), then drink some apple cider vinegar (Braggs). Then i'm ready to do my marketing.

I could sit here and give you some jive about "mental and self-power" etc.... but the bottom line is, most of this stuff isn't mental - it's biological. I do what i need to do to get my internet marketing chores done for the day... even if that means watching porn before my girlfriend comes home from work.

Sometimes we lose track as to why we are building a business or working on a task in the first place. Creating a dream board with all of the things that I would like to accomplish or acquire has help me during difficult times when I was distracted or just not motivated to put in any work at the time.

That's a really good idea Tony, I sometimes do the same with a Word doc. I just paste in images and text of what I want to achieve.

Do what you need to do with your business BEFORE you open up your email or go to Facebook.

Email and Facebook is the last thing you do when all your Income Producing activities are complete.

      Thanks Tyler

You're right, I shouldn't even think about FB or anything else until I get my work done. Emails can also be a distraction and I've found it's best to open up emails just once a day.

If you're absolutely clear on what you should be doing, you could use a plugin such as StayFocusd (Chrome) and only allow the URLs of the sites you need for work.

Write down everything I need to do at night before I go to bed.

Turn off distractions including phone, email, FB.

    Get stuff done.

    1. No Facebook account
    2. No Instagram account
    3. No Twitter account
    4. No Reddit account
    5. Watch YouTube only when the work is done...

    Easy for me.

My wife and kids keeps me focused and motivated to reach my daily goals.

Working from home for the past eleven years has just taught me to stay focused on the task at hand, because when you have no one to tell you what to do to grow your business, your will end up goofing off aimlessly on facebook, youtube or twitter etc.

Set realistic achievable daily goals and set aside the time to achieve your daily goals to work on growing your online/offline business.

It's 00h32 where I am right now in my part of the world, because I found for me, that workind in the middle of the night allows me time to stay focused on my work online in my own business.

Working at night allows me to spend more time with my family during the day when they are awake, and I don't have any distractions of having to take kids to school or commute to the office in peak hour traffic that competes for my attention.

I have time to work set aside when it's quiet in the middle of the night and this way I can remain laser focused on the task I want to do to expand my online empire.

Give yourself a timeline for completing each activity you set out to do everyday. Do not open anything else even an email when you are in the middle of a task. You can even use a real timer and set it for, say, 2 hours, for each task. If you finish early start the next task and only use the extra time right at the end. Check your emails once in the morning and once at night. If you are like most people who are on several mailing lists, you can get caught up in offers from marketers so watch out for that. If it is any consolation, we all get diverted sometimes especially surfing this forum.

I realized best way to being focused is

    1) Use a to- do list. Always prepare a list for the next day.

    2) Before sleeping, always do a 10 min meditation and use auto suggestion. Remind yourself what your goal is. Imagine about your dream. How you will behave when you will be having that money. The vacation you want. The places you want to travel. The people you want to be with...

    3) Plan your strategies. You can fix day for your work. For example: Use sunday to post new blog posts. Use Monday for forums posting, and media sharing and other traffic funnels..

    4) Watch motivation videos or read quotes every other day.

I hope it will help you to reach your dreams.

One little tip: Spend time each and everyday and all the tasks you have to work on. Be it 5 minutes or 3 hours, the goal is to touch on every task at least once per day. This way you know you are not neglecting any one thing for too long.

I also recommend an online timer app like Syncd where you can easily keep tabs on what you've done each day and for how long.

I write out a daily action plan the day before.

I commit to completing everything on that daily action plan and I make sure that everything on that daily action plan is connected to my goals and my "why".

This helps me to stay focused and at the end of the day I feel guilty if I don't complete at least 90% of everything I have on the list.

One thing that really helps me is hiding social media for a few hours and setting aside my phone. It's incredible how one distraction can quickly turn into an hour or two of other distractions.

I have had this problem all the time.
I call it "shiny objects" that you see while surfing the internet or more particularly in the emails you get from people whose lists you are on.
You don't want to 'miss out' so you always look at more and more and different opportunities so you an never stay focussed on one thing.
What I started doing is just filtering my emails so I don't lose any emails but just focus on one thing at a time.
Once I have tried and tested one method I can always go back to my email sub-folders and try something else.

    Thanks

It's not a very good example but imagine you needed a spade to dig for gold in a gold mine.
You have a red spade, then you discover you can go for a blue spade, then you discover a gold spade is on special offer.

Basically there are many methods for earning money online but just focus on one at a time.
When you diversify and try different things that get you results, you can focus on he activities that get you the greatest ROI.

    Thanks

Your focus will come and go at all time, I'll suggest to try and get as much work done while your focus rather than not. I usually write on my diary all the tasks I need to complete on that day, and I tick them off as I complete them, I guess that's how I keep focus most days, by knowing what I need to achieve and having it written down somewhere so I can look back on it, It's like a pad on the back every time I tick something off the checklist... and helps me get to the next thing. Maybe being more organized about how you want your day to go ... might be my best tip in containing your focus levels high.

Left a to-do lists before you shut down the computer or leave your office. The next day, complete the task on the to-do-list before doing anything else!

*The list must be written the day before and not before you start work.

Classic shiny red ball sydrome, The way I stay focused is to line up a variety of the most productive things and focus each one one at a time. For example, do so jumping jacks then focus for 20 mintues on marketing you lead page to get more optin. If you go from one to another it gets your best friend and your worst enemy on board which is your mind. Remember you are not your mind it is a tool you use for the development of your soul, in this case its building your business.

Things that help me stay focused are usually music (deep house beats work the best for me), and coffee. Also, a place without any distractions and outside noise. All those factors combined and I can probably work full steam for 4-5 non stop.

I take a break when I realize that I lost focus.

I'll think about all the people that aren't wasting time and getting ahead of me. I'll think about the family that relies on me. I'll think about my retirement in 5 years.

    Boom!

Start that pomodoro and get back to work

    Hi panditmarketing

It's very easy for me to get distracted

But the method I use is to write down my 'to do' list for the day. The stuff I have to get done, or want to get done.

This goes in my 'day book' - an A4 diary, page per day.

Then I make a mark against 3 that I choose to do next.

I take a post it note and write the 3 tasks on it.

Then close the book, come away from my emails, Facebook, forums etc and get on with those 3 tasks.

When they're done, I go back to my day book and strike through the 3 completed tasks.

    It works for me.

    Hope that helps.

    All the best

    Trevor
