Opinion on a site idea?

I have a niece wanting to find a niche and start a site. She is wanting me to find something which is plaid or patchwork style and she wants to sale teen-bling and purses. Do you think that a site based on those would do okay with either of those patterns for the site background? Would that be too "cutesy" to get sales?

Not sure about the plaid or the purses but my daughter makes pretty good money selling her homemade jewelry. She's had no problem finding customers.

If your niece is a teen herself, and therefore knows her market I would go with what she wants, it may seem strange or even over the top to you but if she likes it then without a doubt there will be many others just like her, and of course she will be promoting it to all her friends. And if she's on facebook etc those friends will be many and far flung!

      Good luck!

If you're eyes are attracted to the background and away from the products and content, you may want to choose a different background because it might affect sales.

It may be no bad thing if some of her personality comes through in the design of the site and if she like patchwork/plaid, I wouldn't object so long as it's designed tastefully. Kids have very different ideas of what looks good. It's something to with being raised on myspace backgrounds!!!

To be honest a plaid background would make me a bit sick but she is her market and she should be able to understand them better than I ever could.

How many teens actually shop online for that stuff? Surely they will need their parents card and permission? I guess you should just check to see if there is any similar sites and split test the different site layouts.

Which is exactly what my thought was when she mentioned it. She has her very own debit card which she received when she opened her checking account. I told her she should consider this carefully, talk to her friends, see how many of them would buy from her. Well about 12 of them have their own debit card and several of those also have credit cards. How crazy is that?

It really depends on what color the plaid is. If it's red and black, it'll look very country. If it's different shades of green, it'll look very nice. Blue and purple would be good too. Just stay away from black and red unless your selling log cabins.

You're asking the wrong people. Your niece should ask at school.

If you're wanting to sell it online, then the best way to know is to check wordtracker to see how many people are actually looking for this. That's the key to making money online...find a hungry market with little solution and then provide that solution to this hungry market.

There's no need to guess. Wordtracker will flat out tell you everything you need to know. But if she simply just wants to sell it to her friends, school mates, and just have a website up to send them, then only she would know if they're into this sort of thing.

Yes, the background has something, choose what you think is more appealing to the audience.
