Courses & Membership site - Use a second domain or no?

Hey everyone. Long time lurker here. Looking for opinions. I have a personal blog website, which is my actual name. I talk about 3 different topics. Then I have a separate domain name with those exact 3 topics as the actual name of the domain. My goal is to sell courses and create a private membership website where people can access other content, a forum and what not. Would it be best to put it all on my "official blog" domain(The one with my name)..Or use the second domain as the membership and course website?

I have seen both done and not sure of the route to go here.

Thanks,

MI

I would have the trainings on a separate domain - since the name is related.

Then just promote that site on your personal blog. It will be easier for you to promote your membership site this way!

    Hope this helps!

    Keep up the great work!

I was thinking the same thing for SEO purposes too..i noticed a lot of the big guys have their name as one domain, products on there and what not but the "course" domain is a sale page/membership page. i just created a "courses" drop down with a link to the other domain for each course(Still creating that site though)

I am open to hear every opinion for or against both of the things i mentioned

Now im thinking...Make my main name.com domain, everything, membership courses,blog..etc..But use the other domain/ buy other domains in my niche as a sales page or redirecting...For SEO purposes?

    Hey MuscularItalian

    It is up to you.

In my opinion I would put everything on one website because it avoids any complications and it will keep things simpler for you.
One of the most important skills to develop as a internet marketer is simplicity and organisation. 3 separate websites does become a little cumbersome, because then you have to put in extra work and effort in developing each website, taking time away from you.

Time is your greatest asset, so instead of using your time to recreate content on 3 different websites, it is more beneficial to put everything on one website, to keep life simple for yourself.

    Good luck

Subdomains are a good choice for keeping your content uncluttered, away from the direct view of hackers' prying eyes, and being able to have more than one program available for your customers. I've been doing that for years.

You almost assuredly have a CMS through your hosting company. Going in there and creating a course.mysite.com subdomain is easy.

Second vote on the use of a subdomain, especially if your domain name has anything to do with your niche / product. Wordpress has some good membership plugins that will keep nosy people out. And, of course, you should always make sure your posts in your membership site are set to "private".
