Authority Blog or Squeeze Page Business Model?

Hey guys,

I'm working on creating an authority blog in the fitness niche. I'm focusing on writing long, 2000+ word posts with images, and lots of links out to other blogs and websites. I plan on building a list and selling to my subscribers via an autoresponder series.

On the other hand, I'm thinking of a very simple squeeze page based business model where I write guest posts and link back to my squeeze page. I'll still focus on writing long, authoritative blog posts, but rather than publishing them on my site, I'll put them on other fitness blogs (and forums) with the intention of building my email list.

I'm wondering which you would recommend:

1). Build an authority blog with amazing content and build an email list that way
2). Write amazing content for other sites and hope that people come back to my squeeze page and join my email list

Ideally I would do both, but given my time constraints, I'm wondering which is best.

Also, if you're in the fitness niche, do you get traffic from forums?

Thanks!
Raza

My vote goes to authority blog model ,as you can do other experiments related to IM on your blog.

Squeeze page model is good but the scope will be limited in that case .

I hope you got my point

In this market? I wouldn't recommend an authority blog. You'll never compete.

    1. Squeeze.
    2. Public blog on the back end.
    3. Subscriber blog.

Feed content from both blogs to your list. Use the public blog for article syndication and growing your list through content upgrades.

The squeeze page gives you an opportunity to develop USP (unique selling proposition) for your business and concentrate on this to grow your list.

The content site would hold you back:

    1. Stiff competition
    2. You won't be directing people to your list; you'll be sharing information and MAYBE they're join your list.

    The squeeze approach:

    1. Eliminate competition with a brand new approach. I recommend a video course (these are doing very well). But you also need more than the gift. A continued incentive to stay tuned and open emails.

    2. You're focusing the attention of ALL your traffic on the opt-in. Much better way to grow your list, obviously.

    Cheers,

    Tom

      Thanks everyone.

Tom, by "public blog on the backend" do you mean they can only see the blog if they join my list?

Again, ideally I would do both, but creating content is my bottleneck i.e. it's hard to create great content on my blog AND for other blogs.

      Thanks!

You essentially have only 1 blog, but you section it off.

        1. Public Blog. Everyone in the world can see this blog. You'll be using the posts on hear to get traffic by distributing these around the net. When people read them posts, you encourage them to opt-in. Use a popup and have a form, too.

        2. Subscriber Blog. This is one of the reasons they open emails, to see the posts, visible only to them, that you share via emails. Sending content to subs then becomes a combination of emails and emails with blog post links.

        Cheers,

        Tom

I suggest you to direct traffic into your squeeze page.
Of course you must to have a blog, in that way you can send the new article at your subscribers.

in this way subscribers could both see the page with your products and read articles so you can retain them!

I think that you should do both: create an authority blog with quality articles (where you collect emails and build your list)...and also write for other websites and link back to your website.

This way you create an authority blog with a lot of quality backlinks (high PR in time) and you also build your list.

So you have many more monetizing options: the list, ads on your website (Adsense), sponsored articles, sponsored reviews, sponsored links etc. And one day you could also sell your website for a good amount and just keep the list.

You need to focus on RETURN ON EFFORT

    Why?

Building an AUTHORITY site is no joke.

    It takes time.

It also takes patience in EARNING BACKLINKS to your authority site.

However, faced with the 2 options you laid out, building an AUTHORITY SITE (assuming you build it the right way - no shortcuts!) is the best way to go.

    How come?

You are building a solid asset that will pay off ... over the long haul.
