Dating website beginner

hello all,

Really would love some friendly advice for a beginner with a new nice dating website:

1) I am running analytics on my site and last month it shows I had around 1,300 page views and 721 sessions. I take it this is very low. Or a decent start? I only have a twitter and facebook page for the site at the moment, so not paid for anything in the way of marketing.

2) I am really stuck as to firstly, how to get more traffic, then how to get more members join (it is free membership, then only 3 dollars for full membership and all functions) and how to maybe make a little money from the site...even just a little.

3) The site as no illegal content, but I suppose is slightly ranuchy or as some minor sexual content in the way of profile pics that show some flesh, so I guess this is the why Adsense google rejected my application with them, maybe....

I have had a play around with Adwords with some success, but found it very expensive!

Any advice would really appreciate, as the project has taken me a lot of time to complete and some money too. I am not wanting to earn massive amounts of money, just start myself off on a fun project to grow and learn!

Thanks,

The new guy...

What's the compelling reason for visitors to join your site? How do you stand out from all the other thousands of dating sites? Why should I join your site? What benefits are there for me?

Getting increased traffic will happen when you start getting great conversions, i.e., people joining your site without thinking twice. If you can't convert browsers to members then you are not ready for increased traffic.

So make sure that people will easily join before you spend time and effort on increased "reach."

I agree with Steve, your site has to have enough quality for your clicks to convert to sign-ups and sales before you go out and pay for more of the same unprofitable traffic. Quick question, why did you really choose that niche?

    Hi smicker2015,

I work in dating - both sides of the coin. I'd be happy to offer some provisional ideas.

    1. On socials, your unique:free should be no more than 1:20. Anything less than that and you'll need to assess what's going wrong. Since it sounds like your targeting won't be an issue, any issues here would likely be down to your lander and/ or signup process.

    2. If you have a War Room account, you'll find a post of mine about generating dating traffic. You might pick up a few tips. If not, no WR account, I'd be happy to tell you.

    3. Since you're "rightly" taking the legit route, and I assume no fake profiles, then you should be offering at the very least 100% free memberships to the ladies. When you're growing a new dating site, though, you should make it free across the board, with the clause that this can change at any time in the future worded into your TOS.

    4. Avoid AdWords. If you can, try to get ads running on POF. They've stopped taking new registrations for PPC for the foreseeable future, but if you know someone with an account, perhaps they can run your ads. Additionally, Bing. This is the go-to for dating PPC right now.

    5. What I'd do right now is work on building traffic on socials and video sharing:

    1. Youtube.
    2. Dailymotion.
    3. FB Page.
    4. FB Group.
    5. G+ Page.
    6. G+ Community.

Those 6 will give you the most power in the shortest space of time. You might consider Twitter, but if you go this route I'd start off by paying for plugs. Twitter traffic is usually not very productive but you'll at least fill out your site with profiles, just not many that will eventually upgrade.

    6. Media buys on dating forums work very well.

    7. USP. A straight hookup site is okay - you don't need a niche - but you'll work harder to upgrade from frees unless you go niche. And it isn't too late at this stage.

IMO - your aim right now is to grow the memberbase. Forget about upsells. It's not worth it for only $3 a time, anyway. Monetize inside with affiliate offers (trials and PPLs). Once you have a decent memberbase, then you have a real product.

At that point - research + affiliate program.

I'd suggest joining the marketplace on PeerFly. Probably one of the best CPA networks in the industry, fantastic staff, and they're known to have some great dating offers - everything from small(ish) sites to the biggest. Try to get Luke as your AM.

Setup the paying membership feature before PeerFly. Learn everything you can about your traffic. One of the key things: your free:paid upgrade rate. Once you have all this figured, I'd suggest setting up a PPL offer on PeerFly. (Pay per Lead) and make it a long-form, double opt-in. You'll get better upgrade rates.

Just some quick initial ideas, based on what I imagine is budget, etc. Hope some of it helps!

    Cheers,

    Tom

Hi! I like dating websites and have already tried a lot of them. To my mind https://kovla.com/ is the most suitable - it is absolutely free and safe and there are a lot of interesting users.

You should ask yourself,"Is my website different from other dating sites? What great and unique value can I provide for my members?" I think you'd better target a particular group of people as your potential customers. You need to give visitors a very strong reason to join your membership site. Then you can probably charge much more than just 3 dollars for full membership. If you can make your website much more profitable, you won't care about high CPC or investing big money in SEO. For example, the premium members need to pay $30 per month and you are pretty sure that many members would like to buy yearly subscription.

It's going to be difficult to build up your user base just because dating sites have become quite an over saturated market. Like some others have mentioned, you need to find a way to convince people to sign up to your site rather than other popular dating sites like POF that have a ton of registered users.

As far as making a little money. Once you've grown your site a bit you can signup to a CPA network like MaxBounty where you'll have access to a large selection of dating offers that you can use on your site.

There are two main ways to generate traffic without ads

1)Viral Content marketing- which is tailoring and optimizing your content for social media. There are very particular things you can do to optimize shares on social media sites such as Facebook & Twitter. Such as having a

    a) Having a Captivating Title :

"10 Dating Mind Hacks To Get Her To Want You" vs "Dating Tips For Men". The first would be better optimized for social media while the other would be for search engines.

    b) Using images

Images get shared more on social media than similar content that is in a text based format. Infographics when done correctly are an effective means to generate traffic on social media sites. And there are plenty of free easy design/ infographic platforms avaliable now online.

There are other things as well. But the idea is to have a conglomerate of social media accounts all of which are in the same market or similar styled content. This is not an immediate process but overtime you get to control your own traffic without the need to worry about search engines and keywords

    If so, any recommendations?

I also have a dating website to be released soon, it's differen't than anything I've seen, so I've got an edge there.

As others have already said, dating is highly competitive niche, your focus, at least initially, should be to develop an angle, a USP for your website so you can convert cold traffic.
