Free Music for Podcasts?

Warriors:

Looking for a good source of free music I could use as background music for my podcasts...

I have a definite sound in mind (for example, kinda like the Doors "Riders on the Storm", etc)
but obviously can't use the real thing because of licensing issues.

Is there one or two really good sources I can go to and search for such music?

Thanks for any and all enlightenment...

Audio Jungle is the only place I use for quality music. Trying to find a cut like the one you want will be next to impossible, anywhere, but if it exists, that will be the best place to find it. Not cheap, but very high quality, generally. I have always found something I was happy to use and I'm very hard to please.

    Cheers. - Frank

You're better off paying for a proper music license from a reputable source rather than looking for "free" music. Especially if it's being used in a podcast.

Can you share a bit more about your Podcasts?
Topic(s) covered? Target Audience? How many subscribers?

    (I'm asking for a reason).

There are four ways to go for music you can use in an online business. These are public domain, creative commons licensing, commercial licensing (with existing or commissioned work), and (purchased) royalty-free compilations.

Public domain is not always safe, as tracing the source is a process. Commissioned work can be cheap or free if you have a music school near you with students willing to work for something to add to their resume. Unless you are dealing with a solo artist or a major publisher, not all royalty-free compilations being sold online are safe.

As the safest source, I'd recommend using something with a CreativeCommons.org license. Legal Music For Videos (Link). A resource not listed in this creative commons link that has royalty-free and Doors-style music available is incompetech.com

I have dealt with the attorney for the owner of the Doors mechanicals in the past and they are very protective of Morrison and the work, so you wouldn't want any music that even comes close to quoting something recognizable from a specific song. If you do become popular and have a budget, you can go to HarryFox.com and license most anything.
