My family and I have gone to the same resort destination in the U.S. for the last 10 years. As such, we are going to create a blog to show people the different things to do and enjoy while there.

What are some of the different ways that we could monetize the site? I was thinking about affiliated products. Would adsense work? Are there affiliate programs for rental cars and airlines?

Any good theme ideas for word press? Free is best but not necessary.

    AdSense would definitely work.

    There are TONS of affiliate programs for rental cars, airlines, cruises and anything travel-related.

    Another thought... how about creating your own infoproduct guidebook for that particular resort? You could sell it at your own site and through an affiliate network. Include lots of photos!

    Adsense is pretty good on most travel sites. For affiliate programs, just go to CJ.com and inside you have many many travel related affiliate products, including rental cars, hotels, travel insurance, flights just to name a few.

    Once you have the site established, you could also contact the businesses in the destination you are blogging about and sell them direct advertising space. Think of the tour guides, boat/surfing places, tourist shops, restaurants etc.

      I second Rob's thought on selling an e-book for the resort or the area in general. Although sites like Trip Advisor are hard to beat as far as the amount and quality of content, it can also be a bit scattered at times which would be the need you would fill.
