How many hours do you work a week?

I've read a ton of stuff where people brag about making a killing by working only a few hours each week. Other people say that they worked 20 hour days when they started out.

Which is right? How many hours you worked as a newbie and how have things changed since then.

Same here, I'm still working a lot of hours per day.

It's true, you can cut out a lot from your working time once you build an email list and after managing to create your reputation and authority in a certain field. Until then, you need to work a lot.

actually it depends on your tempo... if you want to succeed asap... you work as much as you can... Somedays I worked 12hours and you can get it down to 30min-1 hour per day

It's very fulfilling when you feel productive. I generally like to try to squeeze at least 7-9 hours (a regular work day) and then on the side will do the mis. tasks like checking emails or ideas

      10- 20 hours approx.
Now it has not always been that way and it will not always continue that way.

Summer time is a little down right now. And that is by design

I have found a nice balance at four hours a day.

I am a big believer in Parkinson's law. Limit task of importance to a shorter time frame. Then you can work harder in the shorter time frame and get just as many things done.

I work as many as it takes to accomplish my goals.

The big thing is are you doing

    IPA (Income Producing Activities)

    or

    Non - IPA (Wasting time)

IPA's are Creating Content, Collecting Emails, Converting Sales, etc...

That is what I am trying my best to focus on.

As a newbie I had worked most of the time as 30 hours weekly and sometimes whenever I felt like I extended the time period to 35 as well. But now there is no time limit for me in terms of my work whether it is personal or professional. I believe in completing the set of task. Doesn't matter how much time it takes. Sometimes it gets complete in 3 ours as well and certain tasks make me to work even more than 10 hours as well. So overall I would say that it depends.

    Alan,

There is no "right" answer. And the number of hours a week someone works has absolutely no bearing on how much you should work to create a profitable business.

Every business is different. Some work smarter than others. Some work faster than others. Some work harder than others.

It depends upon the business model you choose and the skills and abilities you bring to the table. Of course that varies with every person and business.

Don't waste your time making meaningless comparisons with other people. Just go do whatever you have to in order to be successful with the business path you have chosen.

Depends how much "work" you actually do when you're online. If you ignore all the distractions (Facebook, Skype, and yes even Warrior Forum), you can get much more done.

I can have all my work finished in four hours a day as long as I'm not spending any time doing stuff that's not productive.

You work until you get the job done...
You are fishing for reassurances that you won't be stuck behind a PC 24/7, that's not how it works unfortunately...

  • Eventually, (if you learn to work smart) you will realize that you need to grow your business to a point where you hire others to do the so called "work".

If today you were able to outsource everything you are currently doing which you call the "work", then those tasks would be completed by someone else who is willing to do the work in exchange for income.

This would leave you free to "not work", if you so choose, or your work would consist of simply making a few phone calls or sending a few emails a day to your staff to see if everything is going according to plan.

And even "That" can be outsourced.

Most of you in here however are doing all the tasks yourself, even those of you that claim to have passive income, etc, and so your day probably looks like this:

Take away: The only way you'll ever be able to work a very short day, or not at all, will be when you begin to delegate tasks to others.

Until then, the "few hours a week" will remain but a dream, and you'll be stuck behind your PC.

Actually there is no fixed time here. I have a local JOB. I am a banker. After completing my Banking work, I work in the IM section. Most of the day I work here about 3 Hours per day. I work 5 days in my bank. so 2 days I work more than 8 hours in the IM section. I have been earning a good amount of money from this section. Thanks.

Treat your business like a job. 4-6 hours per day should be your minimum if you're serious about starting an online business. You need to be consistent and you should spend most of your time taking action.

When I just got started I used to spend the whole day working on my business, but in reality I was just wasting my time. Instead of taking action, I was just looking at different wsos and products, buying some of them, reading and watching some of them, then taking a little action, then I would move on to something else.

You need to find one business model that you believe in, and stick with it until you become successful. Don't expect to make thousands overnight. If you want to avoid making a lot of mistakes and spending a lot of time and money on the wrong things, I recommend getting a coach or a mentor to keep you on the right path.

I think you need to look at this as a J-O-B at first anyway. You need to put in a lot of hours for a good amount of time until *maybe* you can slack off a bit and/or hire a VA to do some of your tasks.

Hey everyone. Thanks for your comments.

I think this confirms a really interesting issue. Newbies get told that not only can they make thousands a month in the blink of an eye, but also that they can make that much money whilst spending most of their time on the beach, on the golf course or even in the casino!

It's clear from your feedback that this isn't the case. We talk a lot about scams that over promise earnings. But we rarely talk about the 'time scam' that is sold to newbies.

As a few people have said, IM is a business just like any other. It takes a ton of hard work and delivers very little return in the early days.

I'm just grateful that I came into IM expecting this. Thanks to your comments, I now know that I will have to work hard.

    I appreciate your input.

I believe more in quality over quantity, i guess once you pass the researching phase and finally you know a business model which works for you, a 30 hour time works fine for me, however sometimes it can go up to 50 hours as well.

I work 35-45 most weeks. A good portion of that time is spent "researching," which could be reading blog posts or just staying up to date within the industry.

I get more done when I'm not working 60+ hour weeks. I did it for a long time, but it is counter-productive.

I work 8-5 with taking about an hour or so for lunch, Monday to Saturday.

Always take Sunday's off to rest and for religious observance.

I work longer than some and shorter than others I suspect

In my opinion you have to love your work and get fun from it. It shouldn't be a burden for you. You must enjoy your weekend.
At the starting I worked for 30 hours per week. 5 hours per day and 6 days a week.

    Online about 10 hours.

I found things tend to drag out way too much so I got the Office Time app for my iPhone and now I set time limits for projects and use it to record how much time I'm spending on a project (broken down into researching, creating, editing and then getting the sales bit sup).

I tried keeping track of the time I spend working on my affiliate site but that made it feel like work so I stopped counting. I've noticed that I work on a feast or famine pattern where I'll go a while with almost no time spent on it then I'll work 20 hours over a weekend when I have an exciting new idea to implement. I'd guess I'm in the 14-21 hours per week range on average.
