Where to find legitimate medical information sources?

I have a start-up website in the health & fitness niche and I need to find real medical experts to contact. There are a lot of myths in this area of the niche so my goal is to find the truth not only for myself but for others as well.

Does anyone know any legitimate medical sources? Google is no help giving WebMD as it's first choice and aside from medical journals, I'm coming up with mostly opinions from non-experts which is very frustrating.

I realize this isn't a normal request for a IM forum but you guy's rock so I figured I'd check here first. Any sources would be appreciated! Thanks!

If you're looking for medical experts, as you say, then go where the medical experts are . . . hospitals, clinics, doctor's offices, university medical programs, AMA, etc. It seems pretty straightforward.

Have you tried elance? You can find md's, phd's, etc... that have access to scientific data, human clinical studies, etc... that can do research, write articles, etc... for you. Of course you are going to pay more for it. Maybe I should add one more etc... to be safe.

Have you tried going down to the local pharmacies in your area to speak to pharmacists? Or even the local health clinics?

Are you looking to interview medical professionals? Or just looking for legitimate and reliable medical information to use as a resource?

Keep in mind that even experts don't agree on a lot of issues, so you're still going to find conflicting opinions.

As for clearing up myths, I'd do research on the myth and rely on information from medical professionals and other experts (personally, I wouldn't rely on a MD for nutrition or exercise advice as a general rule, although there are a few exceptions) who have a solid reputation in that particular area. But again, you're still going to find different opinions and even conflicting research on many topics.

As for health and fitness specifically, there's a lot of "conventional wisdom" that's not nearly as accurate as once believed; fortunately it's becoming increasingly refuted and challenged. At some point you'll have to take a side or just present both (or how ever many) sides and let your readers decide for themselves.

Thank you everyone for your advice! It's exactly what I was looking for!

@stoltingmediagroup - Thank you very much for the links...I will be checking them out shortly!

@Steve B - Thanks for the reply! Yes, I am in the process of seeing a few doctors/med professionals(physical therapists, nutritionists, etc) myself for information because I suffer from the same thing...I just like to get second opinions.

@DIABL0 - Thanks for the tip...I've heard of eLance but had no idea that doctors applied for jobs there...I will definitely give it a shot!

@Randall Magwood - That's a great idea! I never thought of talking to pharmacists. They might not be able to help as experts since it's more natural but they may know someone in my area that can help...Thanks!

@antero - I got your PM. I will definitely be getting in touch.

@Cali16 - you have cleared up whether I should seek the advice of an MD or a Nutritionist. Since my niche is based in nutrition, I was kind of leaning toward certified nutritionists but yes I agree...everyone has their own opinion. My goal is not to force my readers into thinking one way or another but to let them choose based on facts and what make the most sense to them.

Again thank you all for the help...I really appreciate it!
        Thanks!
