Has anyone hired cheap virtual assistants?

I've heard stories of people hiring virtual assistants from places such as the Philippines for as low as $2-3 per hour.

Does anyone know at what website you can find virtual assistants like this?

All I need is someone who can follow basic instructions and write short emails in English.

You might want to make your potential VAs go through a series of tests before hiring. If you're not finding the quality you're looking for, consider raising your rates. And if you do find quality VAs for cheap, keep them and don't let them go. Hiring a VA is simple, but it make time to find the right one for your tasks.

I have hired a few assistants from Philippines for $2-$3... I got them via Craigslist

Now the quality not necessarily the highest... Depending on what they do... If you give them easy tasks that works very well... But as soon as I asked something more technical there was a disconnect...

    Pros:
    - They speak good english, some of them a computer savvy(but it can't be too complex)
    - They are cheap $2-$3 (but you need to pay them monthly )
    - they can write articles (but not too sophisticated)
    - i gave them 2-3 courses that I bought and taught them a few things and then they have improved at what they do...
    - I even taught 'em how to edit a video for one of the girls...
    - they can sort out your emails
    - they can do basic support
    - they can upload videos to youtube
    - they can post ads for you
    etc

    Cons:
    - They have bad weather sometimes and they don't have internet for 2 days... That made me pissed off a few times...
    - their internet is slow
    - when I'm on Skype sometimes their kids are screaming in the background...(well I guess I can live with that)

Anyway, hope this helps you guys...
