Response Testing Accuracy (Mobile Renegade)

Hello all,

It was my understanding that when selling a Mobile Website, one could first tell the owner(s) that their site is not responsive. To do this, one would use Mobile Renegade, a Response Simulator or browser add-ons from Google Chrome/Firefox to prove the point to the customer.

I went to responsify, am.i. responsive, the response program from Matt Kersey as well as the add-ons for Chrome and Firefox for a particular site. According to the feedback from these response testing areas, the site was not responsive.

I go to mention this to the owner - and - what do you know, it *is* responsive. So - I was confused, how could the tests say "no" and then when going to a mobile phone, you get a "yes".

That then made me have a question about the Mobile Renegade product. How does it check to see whether or not a site is responsive? There could exist a mobile site or a WP (or Drupal) site that is responsive because of a theme being used. It is my understanding the the program spits out "hundreds of qualified leads". With such a number, I cannot physically test them all.

At the same time, I would like to avoid looking incompetent in front of the customer (for obvious reasons)

So again, how accurate are these tests - would one say 30%, 50%, 80%, ???

The reason for my question is so I can tailor my message from "your site is not responsive" to "your site may not be responsive".

Thanks!

Seriously? You cannot take 15 seconds to open a website on your phone before you call the owner?

What else do you have to offer the owner/decision maker?

If I am going to make phone calls tomorrow, I spend an hour the night before opening websites, seeing what they look like, and add keys to my list before I call.

    Examples:

    NM - Not Mobile
    NW - No Website
    UG - Ugly/Outdated
    NS - No Social Media
ML - No Mailing List Opt-In
    Hibu
    YP - Yellow Pages

I have several others, but that gives you the idea. Then I have something concrete to discuss with the owner. He KNOWS I looked at his site. I can discuss options to help him find new clients and to engage with his current clients.

That little bit of extra time to be prepared to talk to your potential clients will increase your close rates and make you look more professional.

My thought was to use EMail and Phone Calling. Besides, in the past, I have done mucho research on the "potential" customer - even going so far as to seeing how they were rated on Yelp - ready to discuss possibilities only to be shut down by a GK or someone who was not interested. All that time wasted

My understanding was that MR provides hundreds of leads at a setting. The only thing that can be guaranteed is that the customer has a Yellow Pages ad and they don't have a mobile site. From what I have seen on the forum, it is more of a numbers game. I have never done the EMail approach (so I don't know if it really works or not).

Thanks Sid Hale for the Info

I also found that one could make a "dirty hack" to use this feature of Google:
Does Google offer API access to the mobile friendly test? - Stack Overflow

But then, there was also the danger of being Blacklisted. Is this the point where one would have to use proxies? On a wild chance, does MR allow for integration with other programs?

    TIA
