Hello all, I am new to IM and am looking for some expert advice.

After joining and reviewing some videos for BCB, I am trying to take my first steps towards starting my IM business. I created a Blog on Wordpress.com, not sure if this was the right thing to do as WP.com seems to be more of a social media site that isn't as customizable as say, buying your own domain and maybe setting up through wordpress.org.

Also, does it matter where domains are purchased? Is one better than the other? Does it truly matter?

Does anyone have any suggestions?

I'd be very grateful. I'm anxious to get work started. I have goals to reach.

Thank you.

I'd recommend that you start by getting your own domain from a reputable domain company such as godaddy.com or namecheap.com and then get a hosting account and install WordPress on your own server. Msg me if you need help with setting this all up.

    Welcome

I agree, If you're serious about building a business online. I would build my blog on a hosting account and purchase my domain name. It's also a lot more customizable. It doesn't make a difference which company you choose, other than price. I would use Namecheap or Blue Host.

Oh, I'm trying. Just swimming blindly in this huge ocean of fish.

I've been lucky to have met one person that seems to genuinely want to help

          but..

It's been less than a week and I've already found troublesome people. People looking to take advantage of me and just wanting to get my money. I want to be helped, not honeydicked.

Sometimes to get the help we need we have to pay for it. That's just a fact of life. Most doctors, for example, want to help but we gotta pay for that help. That is true in business too.

Do you have your own webhost? If not, you need to get a basic plan. You can search here for a lot of ideas and opinions about the best one to go with. http://www.StableHost.com is pretty good.

Then you'll need to change your DNS settings at the place you bought your domain to match the webhost's DNS. You can get all that information through the webhost.

After that is done, you'll need to install WP on the website. Most control panels have a 1-click install. I don't recommend that route - it's best to set it up manually or pay someone to set it up manually. But you could choose the 1 click install if you must. Get more information about installing WP at http://www.wordpress.org

Then you'll need to make whatever appearance changes you want to make and install things like security plugins (I use Wordfence) and generally spend a little time getting things ready to go.

            Then you can start posting.

Hope that helps you see the flow a little more.

            Mark

Mark, that helped a lot. Thank you very much.

I understand, and am more than willing to pay for success.. the problem is, paying people and receiving nothing.. definition of a scam. I want for this to work so badly therefor I'm getting a bit frustrated but am and will try my best.

I would be ever so grateful if you would consider PM'ing me. You're very knowledgeable and I'd love if I could get some more help.

Where you buy the domain name does not affect the name, since it is assigned by domain authority ICANN. Each domain vendor provides some features and offers to their users. Try namecheap since they offer low cost domain names, just $10 a year renewal fee.

You can also transfer it to some other provider if you want. Its 100% portable.
