do you put date of your post on your website?

I heard is better to put date of you post is good for your site whereas I see some never put date of your post.

so whenever you post new contents do you put date of the post?

    It's always best to date your posts on blog entries, particularly in view of the fact that followers then have a guideline as to the frequency of new information appearing.

    As for websites, dating new material can be important if this material is time-sensitive. e.g. . . medical info, sports events, etc, etc.

      this is also what I feel.
      without date , I doubt visitor will return to your site right.

      Once they noticed you constantly update the content by viewing the date I guess they will once a while check back
      but I see other sites ( which same niche as mine ) they never put date on their post yet every day have a lot visitors.
      hmm perhaps their domain is old?

      And that is why I never put a date on any of my posts. I want people who find my site in the search results to visit my site. I don't want them to see the date and say, "Oh, that's from 2013. That's old. I'll find something else."

      No dates. Ever.

    It depends on the purpose of your site.

    If you are posting articles that are evergreen, and are posted for informational purposes, you would not want dates on the posts/pages/articles.

    If you are creating a site where you are "talking to people" in a conversational blog format, then you would want to have the dates. This allows people to know when the conversation started and how it is progressing.

        Think like a visitor.

        I've been on sites where there weren't any dates, and it felt sketchy to me. I use dates on my blog.

        But if it was a advertorial sales post, I don't think I would mind the date missing.

        If you're sharing tips that could be replaced with new information ("Eggs are bad!" "No, wait, eggs are good"! / "Here's a new way to breathe while you run that increases your stamina") then I believe the date is important as a marker.

        Now you may say, "Well, my info is evergreen, and so why wouldn't I remove the date to use the same post over and over again?" The answer is that you don't want to.

        After 9-12 months, your readers have forgotten the tips they learned way back when.

        Think in terms of News.

        Sports talk radio does this all the time. If the team wins, it's news. If the team loses, it's news.

        Same with you.

        If they've forgotten your original post on the topic, it's news to talk about it again.

        If your readers remember the original post, it's news to talk about it again.

        If there has been an update or improvement on the topic, it's news.

        If the original tip has been completely discredited, it's news. (And you're still the hero, for bringing it to their attention.)

        So you want to 'recycle' these stories in new ways every 9-12 months.

        Readers can then see an ongoing narrative.

        That makes the dates matter.

          Same here, but if content is evergreen, having it dated 2011 can make someone feel like it's outdated when it's not.

          I think some posts need dates and others don't. I mean, if you write a post about how to get into a given affiliate network, that needs a date because policies and interfaces might change. But if you write one about how to presell an affiliate product on your mailing list, that doesn't need a date because it doesn't change much - if at all - for years.

          I'd lean in the direction of this being the difference between a page and a post.

    It really does depend on your site and what you are looking to achieve. If it is ever green then the date is largely irrelevant.

    Ultimately it's also about engagement.

    For the first time the visitor comes to the site it's about the content first, what are they getting from it. Irrespective if there is a date there or not visitors need a reason to come back to the site.

    I would suggest you also need to find a way to engage the user to entice the back to explore more of your content or when and as new content is released. Specifically an email capture.

    Think about yourself, how often do you go back to a site that you have found without just googling again.

    I always post dates for one major reason really and that's so that my readers can see that we on a daily basis present new interesting content. For new people who might visit my site for the first time it's also another reason to get them to come back

    Date is really important to us. Always I use the date on my post. We all should use the date in every important place.

    As a blog reader I like seeing the date to know if what I'm reading is recent or not. But I have found that some people just "fake" their dates anyway. When you read the content you can tell it's really old.


    As a blog owner I have found that a lot of my really old post are very popular and make lots of money. The people who see these posts don't care what the date is. I don't even update the content, it's jus told stuff that people still like.


    So I'll say dates are not always important.

    I'm in two minds of thought, if your updating your website regularly, then of course use the date, but if your not then get the date off straight away!, nothing kills a user experience quicker then when someone comes onto a blog page and the last time a page was updated was April 2011

    You should see if there's some sort of javascript available that will automatically update your blog posts' dates for you. Or... don't use a date if you're too concerned about it. But just update your blog every 1-3 days and you'll be fine.

      Probably better to just run a query on the database every month or so. I suppose if you are lazy you could have it set up as a cron job.

    For normal articles and content, I will date them but if you intent to use them for marketing promotion, then it will kill the effectiveness after they get outdated.
