Need help re-thinking my business strategy

Hi everyone,

This might be abroad topic and I apologize in advance – but I would really appreciate any input. I have been running my e-commerce site for about six years. I and primarily a musician and am passionate about teaching. I've been using my website to sell my downloadable guitar courses.

The site has allowed me to be independent and pay my bills, but I am ready to take this online business further and I realized that now that I don't really have an effective marketing strategy. So far I have concentrated most of my efforts on YouTube. My channel has grown and is currently followed by about 50,000 active subscribers. Most of my current customer base comes from YouTube directly. However I am not sure that this is the most efficient way to do things for my business.

I have been reading more and more about the importance of using strategic sale funnels. I would love to experiment with all this. There is a lot of great (and not so great) material on the topic. I am ready to invest time and money on educating myself and putting in place a real strategy.

I have a few questions regarding my situation:

1. Are there any courses you think I should start with as far as learning about online marketing?

2. I think understand the concept of funnels, I am not sure however that my current website is the ideal way to incorporate this strategy. Would you advise me to have different websites for each of my courses so that I could put in place a very targeted sales funnels?

I hope these questions are relevant to what I am trying to do. If I am way off in my thinking please let me know. I am very willing to learn and put in the effort and finances to build a solid foundation and a solid strategy for my business.

Thanks in advance!

David

Congratulations on your sucess. It is nice to see someone who has been doing well in IM. I like your site. For you first question I do not think you need "a course" necessarily so much as research and learning. This forum is very good for that. Use the search feature here to find anything on the topics of IM. I see you have been building a list. Perhaps there are some email marketing tips you could find here on WF.

As for different websites I do not think you would need to do that. Perhaps use your existing site by making each micro niche that you promote to become its own section on that topic. For example - perhaps more content on a page for Blues Jams and have a specific funnel (and email list perhaps??) just for blues guitar enthusiasts.

Also you say that almost all your traffic is from Youtube, perhaps you can now master another method of traffic.

If you're looking to expand your horizons, then the first thing you need is to start building an email list so you can market to others. And all this takes is grabbing one of your more popular lessons and offering it for free in exchange for people opting in. Then place the link to this page in each of your YouTube videos and on a banner on your homepage...and that part is out of the way. And this should happen IMMEDIATELY.

Step two is to write yourself a nice "welcome email" that gets sent out when people download your freebie. Just keep it short and thank the person for downloading, tell them you respect their privacy and you'll keep them informed whenever new tutorials are available. You want to get this out immediately as well just to make that first contact, and maybe end the message with, "If there's ever a song/lesson you want me to teach on my site or my YouTube channel, please let me know." This opens up two-way communication and helps to build trust.

Moving forward, stick to your promise. Send folks your new videos, updates on new lessons and focus on getting conversations started. If you come across an Amazon product or anything that would be a big benefit to your readers, then write a blog about it, link to the affiliate page and send out a short email blast. That's all you need to do for this kind of site.

Most of the "guru courses" will tell you a sales funnel is going to sell a small item, offer a premium item and then try to sell several related bonus items....but that's not what your site is or how it really works. So ignore that advice and just build a list with solid relationships. As long as you respect your readers and give them reasons to keep coming back, then you'll do very well and learn quite a bit about email marketing in the process. And you do have the natural advantage of 50k people already appreciating you....so just build on that and strengthen those relationships.

I hope that helped...that's your "expert sales funnel" eBook for your particular site. Happy Independence Day.

Great job on your business, David. I'm a consultant and producing custom marketing plans is a specialty of mine. YouTube is a good start, but there is so much more that you can be doing.

If you search a course focus on traffic!
Create a funnel is easy, manage PPC campaign is a bit hard!

You should use the same funnel for your site!
If you have an autoresponder you could send mails
    promoting different products!

Hi, super glad for your success first of all! You don't necessarily have to go out and buy a course I think, you just need to map out what you are going to need to do with your next project.
