Idea Phase - Input appreciated

Hey Guys,

It's been while since I'm on here. I've been doing some work offline, focusing on the idea phase and trying to narrow down what direction I want to go in for my new business.

I'm not into internet marketing and I'm more focused on building a business.

Here is where I am...

I am looking for a business that I can start from home. I have space for storage and an office so the business can be Ecommerce. I'm also considering running some type of service out of my home with just a website.

I'm very good at selling and have tech, webdev, seo skills, and most of all marketing skills. I've also owned a promotion and marketing agency for nightclubs for a few years.

I'm wondering what your thoughts are? Any ideas for a market to sell products or some kind of service that I can run and possibly expand? I have capital for inventory or physical assets.

I like the idea of having a team or a few employees. I want to start from home and eventually expand.

Any ideas for a market, products, or services ideas?

Open to all ideas as I'm still trying to figure out what direction to go into.

Thanks guys

Idea ONE, hold onto your capital.

    2. Expand rapidly...via commissioned sales people, no out of pocket expense, can find on craigslist.

    3. Use your knowledge and expertise... especially Promotion and Marketing, simply re-frame it, to be inclusive of other businesses. What you did to promote a night club...can't a small gym owner "borrow" some of those ideas to promote and market his gym, karate studio, dance academy, gymnastics place, etc. ???

Tap into what you know and do, my opinion, hire people (commission) to get businesses who want to learn how to promote and market...you deliver via workshops, personal consulting or co-op advertising.

Let other people work for you to the benefit of all.

We know small businesses need, want and spend money to promote and market their businesses, you just need to create a toll booth where you collect the dough.

    SFNY,

As your very first step, I would suggest you read your statement above.

In order to be successful in online business your have to accept the fact that you are an Internet marketer. Every business owner needs to understand and become a marketer - it's what small business is all about.

Once you accept the fact that business is all about marketing, then I would suggest you dive into market research. Before you create your business, it would be wise to understand the market that you'll be dealing with. What are the wants, needs, desires, of the audience you want to serve.

It makes no sense to get all dressed up if you have no clue where the party is or what you should wear.

    Good luck to you,

    Steve

I'd suggest you focus on a service.

    Less space required.

Also, depending on the service, you get maximum mobility.

I provide services so I am a bit biased but...

What I love about my business is I can do it ANYWHERE.

Also, my only investment capital is my TIME.

The first thing that caught my attention is your following statement and I quote ...
"I'm not into internet marketing and I'm more focused on building a business".

As Steve B alluded to, you're pretty much stuck with both. In fact, if you get the mentality to look at internet marketing as a business instead of a quick money making scheme you'll be ahead of at least 80 to 90% of the people who come to this Forum.

As far as suggesting what you should do. I'm sure you'll get a lot of do this ... do that suggestions. So, I'll take the opposite route and ask you a question and allow you to discover the answer for yourself.

The question I'd like to pose to you to think about is ...

"What would choose to do if you had to do it ...

      - 12 or more hours a day,
      - For 6 or 7 days a week ...
      - Without getting paid -- for months."

That's what I'd choose. Because in most cases you'll probably have to before you're successful.
