Today my email folder had 10 replies to subscribed threads. All were pointless and contributed absolutely nothing to the subjects in the threads.

They are clearly being posted simply to raise post counts. One thread had a succession of such pointless posts by various members.

I report Spam and affiliate links, but would reporting pointless posts be pointless?

They are degrading the value of Warrior Forum.

I hear ya...since I don't sell anything on here I speak what I feel is true. I get so totally sick of one liner "responses", often poorly constructed from a "translator" program.

I also get tired of people who dig up old threads to post their "learned" advice...which always aligns with whatever they are pushing in their sig line

I think people should take notice of these sort of people and never ever do any business with them LOL. It is really sad

A lot of these pointless posts are attached to old threads that they have dug up. A good pointer to find the culprits is a long list of posts by the same member appearing when you open up the forum.

Some are not one liners. There are some that ramble on with whatever comes into their mind - most of it totally irrelevant and much of it in fractured English that may be a result of using the translation programs that you allude to.

Yes, it's a growing problem. I report them at times, especially when I see someone who is obviously posting a bunch of useless one-liners to boost their post count (and who clearly hasn't even read the thread but is loosely responding to the thread title) or get exposure to their sig link.

Two reasons for this increase (from my perspective):

        1) We have far too many non-native English speakers who aren't even remotely fluent in English. Not only are their posts very difficult to understand, it's also obvious they don't understand English well enough to understand what others are saying in a thread.

        2) Allowing sig links for brand new members. Sig links should be earned or require a 1-year waiting period, IMO. I reported two new members in the past two days who were posting pointless one-liners, some in new threads, some in old, and both had 5 or 6 links in their signatures. One was making posts clearly related to his sig links, even if the thread had nothing to do with what he was saying. The mods did delete one of them; the other they just removed his sig links.

Edited to add: The second person was frequently starting new threads asking a basic question (e.g. "what is affiliate marketing"). However, he never came back to participate in the threads. The pattern was obvious. So, I report when I see an obvious pattern.

This is definitely degrading the quality of the forum, and it's a big reason why we've lost so many older members who provided a lot of value.

You should report anything which stands out as contravening forum rules...
That includes; spam, pointless one liners, threads posted in wrong forums, advertising etc. The more of us who report these the better, eventually it will have an impact...

It's one of my pet peeves, especially members who have been here for a while who will just stupidly answer any and all threads just to look smart instead of reporting them...

Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.

Yes, and they even include the Spam links in those messages when they quote them.

About 2 hours ago I reported 2 posts that were 3 to 4 lines, but total nonsense. It will be interesting to see if they are deleted by the mods.

So what are the rules these days?

There is one member that goes on a daily spree answering numerous threads with mindless junk.
Very often he goes through a page of threads years old filling page one with ancient threads.
I gave this member an infraction a couple of days ago,
and promptly received a PM from a mod saying I was out of order
as the member has done nothing wrong.

So it would appear trolling old threads to get your sig file seen is fine with some mods.

Not a lot of hope really.

I'm sure you don't mean my pointless one liners. Those suckers are pure gold. :-)

It would also eliminate the huge contribution that a lot of people make to the forum.

As well as dry up any incentive to answer questions.

It is a fine balancing act. No forum is perfect.

Plot twist: these posts are actually generated by a sophisticated AI bot with the sole purpose of burying all the good and relevant information so that the readers get frustrated and hire a mentor instead.

But seriously, a lot of this could be automatically generated content... perhaps the admin should experiment with a captcha for every post?

Is trying to tally post counts something new? It's been going on since the beginning of this forum. Unless your a mod it seems pointless to talk about it. The people who do it will fall by the wayside soon enough.

Okay.... Good talk. Glad I could offer my .02 in this thread and add to my post count.

Actually, it's much worse than it used to be, and it is degrading the forum significantly. Also, while some do it to boost their post count, many do it for sig exposure.

The value of this thread is to, perhaps, encourage others to do more reporting. We're all member moderators (i.e. we can report posts), and the more these are brought to the attention of the paid moderators who can actually take action (deleting posts, banning violators, etc.), the better.

I started this thread in the hope (vain though it may be) that administrators might realize that something should be done to stem the tide of useless posts.

As Cali16 wrote: "We're all member moderators (i.e. we can report posts), and the more these are brought to the attention of the paid moderators who can actually take action (deleting posts, banning violators, etc.), the better."

I do hope there will be a flood of reports to keep the mods busy and make them want something done about this growing problem.

I refuse to read the "If you had $$$ what would you do with it?" posts. There are several others I won't even bother to read because they have absolutely positively been DONE TO DEATH!

All one has to do is simply search up the existing threads and they will find all of the information they need and more. I simply cannot see asking the same question over and over and pretty much getting all the same answers as the 10,000 people who asked it before you got.

That's why I never subscribe to any threads. If there is one I want to come back to later (usually a thread in the reviews section), I'll bookmark it.
