Paypal Automatic Email and Redirect

OK - most of this you probably already know, but think this through...

The first you know of their purchase is AFTER they buy. You can select a single page for Paypal to return them to after the purchase.

With no upsells, that's easy. You just have Paypal return them to your "Download Page".

Anything else requires a little more work, and you have 2 things you need done
1) collect their email address and send front end product
2) show them your upsell sales page

Number 2 is pretty straightforward, so let's look at #1 first.

Option A Unless you have a transparent way of collecting their email address (i.e. from the purchase details), you need an opt-in form, so they can tell you where you are to send their purchase. Your auto-responder service could then return them to your upsell page, and your sales funnel could continue.

Unfortunately, that process involves an intermediate page (the opt-in page) and may not be what you're looking for.

Option B A more sophisticated solution would have Paypal return the buyer to a "page" on your web host (i.e a PHP page) that surreptitiously scrapes the email address information from the purchase details and automatically submits the optin to your autoresponder in the background - before showing the upsell page to your buyer.

This option eliminates the opt-in page, but requires specialized processing on your web host (via that PHP code mentioned in the last paragraph) to eliminate the manual opt-in process.

Option C Unfortunately, every automated opt-in from Option B is sent from the same IP address (your web server), causing the auto-responder service to begin blocking that IP address so that your customers don't get added to the list and (a more immediate problem) they never get the email containing your download link.

The solution for that is to have the PHP page insert the opt-in form (as a hidden form) in your upsell page along with the javascript code to auto-submit that hidden form as soon as the page is rendered in your customer's browser. That way, the customer gets your upsell page immediately after the purchase and because the optin form is sent from your customer's browser, it is their actual IP address that is sent to the auto-responder service with the form.

Option C is, of course, the optimum solution - both for your customer and for the unbroken flow in your sales funnel.

Thanks Sid. I did some research online and got a little bit more comfortable with the subject (as in, I understand it) but not really sure how do it. Might have to find someone to do it for me. C is definitely the best option here, I am aware of that.

As for your suggestions: thanks I appreciate them both, but I am not yet at a point where I am able to invest in a monthly fee for that kind of service.

Whether you can afford it, or not... I don't see good value there anyway.

I didn't look into the second one, but the ebook pro solution is way overpriced. At $40/month, it would cost you almost $500/year. You can get self-hosted solutions with a one-time payment of less than half that amount.

Yeah, that's what I though. And yes, I was referring to those.

I just need to get a little bit more into the "programming" side of it since I am really not familiar with that area.
