How was your Amazon Prime day?

June 15th was Amazon Prime day which was supposed to be like some kind of mid-year black Friday. I did not do anything to promote it on my affiliate site but I still got about 2-3 times as many orders as usual. The items ordered were so inexpensive that my earnings were no greater than average. I also got a lot of orders outside my niche which reminds me of the typical holiday pattern. Since I'm a little short of the pace I need to make 7.5% this month I'm happy to get the extra orders.

Anyone else see the impact of Prime day?

I think Amazon mismanaged this badly, although they say they are very happy with the results themselves and claim it outdid Black Friday. I did see more sales and clicks than usual. But as the OP said, the money was not proportional and was very much on the low side for the number of sales. And as the other poster said, many unhappy customers and bad press resulted from Prime Day. My local news in a major city had all kind of trashing Amazon segments.

This not does surprise me since I went to Amazon myself several times on Prime Day as a buyer looking for good deals and I was fully expecting to spend a significant amount that day. I did not end up buying anything at all. The deals were horrible. I kept going back expecting something to change or that I was missing something and I checked out every Lightning Deal and every category I had any interest in at all. I couldn't believe that I was trying to find a reason to give them my money and I couldn't find a single thing worth buying either for business or personal use.

There will always be people who buy just because there is a sale and I think that is what happened with the sales that were made. But I think Amazon failed big time and could have really killed it. I guess they think they did kill it - I don't know the numbers but they are talking up how much money they made. But whatever they made, it could have been a ton more. And more importantly, they would have happy customers instead of pissed off customers.

As someone funnier than myself said:

"The best deal I saw was 15% off a box of Pop Tarts"

I didn't find any really exceptional deals on things I was looking for. There was so much hype for Amazon Prime day and I really hoped for more stellar buys.
