How old were you when you started IM? and it's a good idea to start at a young age? 19 years old?

I started 7 years ago, and stating young doesn't it's a good thing, many people started IM long time ago but they didn't make anything neither money or experience and in the other hand you may find few poeple that began their journey a couple of years and they are sucessful

I started when I was around 15 years old by selling video editing services and I've still been doing that ever since along with other business models. The earlier the better as you learn the best from experience and the earlier you start the less mistakes you are likely to make further down the line.

I was trying stuff from 15 onwards. Most failures, made a little bit of money from a sports blog I had going, but I wasn't mature or smart enough to ever make a killing. 5 years on and I can say I'm more experienced, still failing at times, but at least making a nice side income while I study.

I believe I was around 7 or so when my eyes got their first experience playing with this thing.

Just love how you can create and build things on the computer with coding. I don't know code but played with it in college a little and its some cool and easy stuff once you learn the fundamentals. Today its html coding.

    Hey!

Yeah I would say it is fine to start IM at a young age. There is definitely a big learning curve So, the sooner, the better.

I, personally, started studying internet marketing at the age of 22. It has been a long journey for, many ups and downs. And many mistakes made. But, this is what I needed to go through, in order to become good at this!!

19 years old is a great age to get started!

Just don't be afraid to fail, because you will. And you need those failures, to mold you into an internet marketing expert!

I wish you the best of the best, if you are just getting started in this industry!

    Cheers!

  • Age has nothing to do with whether or not you succeed. I started one year ago and I will be 43 this year. You will succeed if you have the drive and determination to push through.
Failure only means you have to find another way to go about it. Take the word can't out of your vocabulary.

Drive and determination are all that's needed to win a hot-dog eating contest.

You might want to throw skill, intelligence and a sound business model into that mix. I think that would be very "helpful."

I laughed out loud when I read his reply to the top quoted comment, so Frank is funny sometimes.

I've also read some comments where he gave straight and helpful advice, so he isn't "always negative" as someone wrote earlier.

He grates the nerves of some folks, and I don't agree with all his comments or remarks, but at least he is genuine, which is more than you can say about a large number of people here on the WF - especially after Freelancer opened the flood gates to spammers again when they took over.

Thank you for your kind words. Please remind me to offend you at some point in the near future. :-)

Here's the bottom line. This forum is nicely equipped with an 'ignore' button. With all of the mindless drivel that I read on this forum on a daily basis, anyone whom finds my posts that offensive, need simply click the 'ignore' button and I will instantly be transported out of their sphere of reality on this forum.

That said, if you look to the left you will see that many folks have 'thanked' me for my posts. These are not 'likes.' Hardly anyone actually likes me but a lot of people do respect the knowledge and experience that I have acquired in almost 70 years on the planet and willingly share with folks that are still crapping yellow in their IM diapers. I started selling door-to-door when I was 8 years old. You'll forgive me if I don't allow what anyone says or thinks about me, to influence me in any way.

Like my mom has always told me and still does, I am an acquired taste. :-)

          Cheers. - Frank

P.S. That 'hot dog eating contest' line was one of my best ever. It even made me laugh. :-) It's very true, though - right???

I started in the world of IM when I was 21. That was 6 years ago. I've seen and heard of people starting as young as 15, though. Heck, a few of the 15-18 year olds out there will give you a run for your money in determination, drive, and sometimes even earnings.

I started at 19, and was a miserable failure. But my disdain for "working a job" kept me coming back. I didn't know much back then, and i would stop doing things that i thought wasn't working (even though i was doing everything right!). I know now though, and things are peachy.

Well... I started IM at 21 by mistake. I was actually looking how to make money on a game I was playing way back when (where good items costed you an arm, a leg, and half your soul lol). Fast forward 4 years later I've made VERY LITTLE money. In this time I've made roughly $13.50 and lost oh... just a grand and some change.

Like Randall said, My dislike for my job is what continues me to keep coming back to this space. My friends secretly talk about me on how crazy I am on pursing this and to just find a better job. But I say once I finally breakthrough and being honest and legit...I say all these years of Failure...nah.. ...years of LESSONS will all be worth it to me.

I started one year ago at 22, wasn't smooth sailing from the start. Rather, it was more like trying to sail a boat in a desert. But perseverance paid off and i'm starting to see better returns on my investment of time now.

The beauty about the internet is that age, qualifications, race or gender has zero relevance on the online world. So starting as early as you can would be the best because there would be nothing holding you back for it.

There are certainly advantages. Hopefully your living expenses are lower than mine so you'll be able to make better investments into your business than I was able to.

However, young people are often impatient and easily discouraged (at least I was at that age) hopefully you'll have more patience than I would have. I'm 45 now and I take most disappointments in stride.

I started when most people retire. Start wherever you are. Starting young is no advantage to my way of thinking. That's the benefit of the Internet - anybody, any age, anywhere can achieve success.

I started learning at about 14 - Started trying to make money about 15/16 and by 17 I was earning enough to take it full time and start a business.

I'm 20 this year and while I still continue to run the foundations of my IM business (copywriting, email marketing, list building etc) I'm now mainly branching in to day trading and investing in commodities, REITs and the like.
