Creating a website selling affiliate products

Hey guys,

Just needed some advice and this is normally the best place to ask so here I am again!

I was thinking of trying out affiliate marketing but creating an online shop selling physical items. Amazon would be perfect to sell through as they have many items in the niche I have chosen but the commission rates are too low and I'm guessing you either need to sell a LOT to actually make any money out of the site or sell high priced items...

So...I have 2 questions...

Does anyboby know of any affiliate networks that sell a wide variety of physical items from different stores/online stores?

If I find one I like and end up using, I want to be able to keep them on my website when purchasing instead of re-directing to the affiliate store to make the final purchase...is this possible? I think that's how it works with Amazon?

Also any comments on why I'm wrong about amazon or why I should just go ahead and use it despite my concerns would be greatly appreciated as they do have the largest selection of what I need and it would be awesome if I could just go ahead and use the products on there.

Thanks!

cleanboy

Hey cleanboy. You need to change your angle here. Building a blog takes a lot of time and investment. If you think you can build a site that contains all sorts of affiliate products you will struggle.

You need to pick a niche like health or weight loss and build a following. You are right to wanting to keep your customers. You achieve this by building your list so you can send your customers special offers, new product details etc.

So instead of sending your visitors straight to an offer, you will have greater success (and a real business) if you capture their email address first. If someone buys a protein shake off you, there's a good chance they will want to buy another and another.

Also remember products come and go. You don't want to build a site around a particular product which might be discontinued next year.

Amazon have a very low commission and cookie life as you say, but there are two upsides.
    1. There is zero resistance to sending someone to Amazon as its well known and trusted.
    2. People often make multiple purchases on Amazon so you will get a commission on those too.

Have a look at Shareasale, their commission rate is pretty good and they accept most people as affiliates.

    Good luck

    Jeremy

    Thanks for the reply...

I do have a specific niche, although I dont want to mention exactly what it is here as I think I'm on to something really good...

I was thinking of basically opening up a store which shows the products...for example a t-shirt store...what i mean is selling physical products and then also having a blog (but the blog wont be the main part of the site...more just to maybe review items and also give news about the niche in general) and yes, also getting a list together.

But the main focus would be a shop, like amazon, although I would be selling the products from different affiliate sites...getting the best products from around the web in my niche in one place...

I have seen such web sites. They were build in the following way: when I search for the item or good they search for several shops and deliver you merged results. Then after that you compare prices, delivery terms and decide what is better for you to use in this case.
So you are thinking about similar kind of sites?

This is the proble of Physicall products!
There are no other good lternatives as Amazon, so if you want to earn you should promote your site with free traffic instead PPC cost.

If you want keep product in your website withoud redirect you could sell them withoud affiliation codes.
After you get customers' orders you ordinate product to your supplier
