Has anyone ever attempted to sell audio recordings? Can they be profitable?

Writing Ebooks can be profitable, but I would much rather sell audio recordings. Has anyone ever attempted this? Is there much profit in it?

...and would I have to sell audio CD's like Tony Robbins in order to make a lot of money? Or are digital downloads also profitable?
