Shortcut to Success in Affiliate Marketing?

I am very new at Internet Marketing. I am wondering if anyone here who at the beginning phase has hired mentors to show the ropes (to fasten the learning process)?

How much did it cost you? And how much time longer do you think it would've taken you without having/hiring the mentor?

    Hi jlee,

Welcome to your first step to Internet Marketing.

For me i actually began internet marketing with a mentor by my side so it was relatively smooth for me, it really helps when you have someone to point you in the right direction on where to start and what to look out for.

I've easily spent into the five digits for my mentorship because i went for someone reputable but it was definitely worth the investment because i have since earned back my investment.

But the beauty about internet marketing is that you can easily pick it up even without a putting down a heavy investment like i did with myself. You can search around for reputable figures in internet marketing and purchase one of their books. That alone should give you the basic information to get started out.

    Best of luck!

You first need to identify your passion. IM is very broad and affiliate marketing alone is still very broad too. You can do it the Authority site way (building authority site where hosting etc will be a concern), the minisite way (but you will have to drive traffic using paid methods), the email marketing way (where you just need to snap up a squeeze page collecting leads but you must be very good at maintaining your list) etc.

I did not hire or need any mentors. Iam not saying it is necessarily a bad thing. For some it can be good.

I studied a lot of the principles here at WF and also PMed some experienced Marketers when I had really specific questions to ask.

Not sure if it would have cut down the time of the learning curve with my progress if I had a mentor.

I had to pay my mentor $995. Showed me everything to do, he showed me what he does... and i still f*cked the project up. But everything he taught me in the beginning, i see why - and i see why it works. There is no "shortcut" with marketing. It's simple marketing. Squeeze page, traffic, residual income affiliate commissions, repeat the process.

  • I tried to figure out everything on my own at first.

Which has benefited me alot, in terms of experience.

After a while I sought out to coaches. I think that's the best way to go.

I think there is no shortcut in affiliate marketing. The more you will do things with affiliate marketing the more you will learn. Just be focused and make the consistency.

If you are going to get a mentor make absolutely sure they know what they are doing. By that I mean if you want to do x make sure they can provide you with absolute proof they can do x. If they can't don't hire them.

I have hired quite a few "coaches" and "mentors" before becoming a lot wiser and ALL of them were awful.

Note - I don't have a link in my (or any) signature offering my services because I don't have any services to offer.

You can get started without a mentor. You'll just need to put in the effort to read resources like WF, relevant blogs, and take action. Taking action being the most important element - you learn so much from personal trial and error.

One tried and tested model of my own:

    1. Identify a problem.
    2. Put together a solution (video courses are working well).
    3. Squeeze page on the front end.
    4. Blog on the back end.

With you being new, promote PPL (those email submits) in your sales funnel. Grow your list with socials and forums. Feed it with blog posts and emails. Once you have a regular $100 / day coming through, you can relax a little. At that point consider ongoing commission offers to give you more long-term stability.

    Cheers - Tom

I wouldn't say there are any time-tested "Shortcuts" that can get you succeed overnight, the fastest way is to start "doing it" instead of planning around, start investing your money in paid traffic and go from there..

Personally , I think the only shortcut to success is to take action. As long as you do not take action so whether you have the best mentor you will never achieve success or shortcut your way to success.
It is easy to get trapped in the learning curve and try to learn everything before you take action out of fear of failure. I fell in this trap. So i tried to learn from every Guru who claimed so and bought most courses that came my way thinking that the more i know the better will be my success as they says "knowledge is power" but knowledge only becomes power if you put it into action. I finally settled for a step-by-step course which was just as good as a mentor and i decided not to buy another course until i have taken action and proved that it does not work and it worked. Within 2 months of buying the course and taking action i earned my first $200 online after 3 years of chasing shiny objects.

If you are interested in affiliate marketing, then head over to affilorama and get a free account. You can get lots of free information then you can decide what direction you want to go. I think you will find the more you read and learn the more you will not need a mentor or coach
