Interviews with professionals

My website currently doesn't have a blog, and I was thinking about making one. I came up with the idea of interviewing other professionals in their respective trades, which seems nice, because then I will have a steady flow of content.

Do you think interview articles are interesting enough to bring in quality loyal traffic?

But wouldn't this method work better with text? Not only for the sake of SEO keywords, but also, when, for example, a professional recommends some product, I can link that product as an Amazon affiliate??

Well, if you also do transcripts of the recordings, that could be where you do your SEO. In regards to products, you could have a "Products Mentioned" below your video and transcript with your affiliate links. For instance, look at what SPI does in this regard.

  • There is a site called meetup.com where you can do a search for local events (search city name + keyword on the site). Have a list of 10 questions ready when you attend an event and go around and ask if you can interview people.
    That is one way.
You can also send out requests to gurus in your niche for interviews and you can do these via Skype. The are a few different programs you can use to record the interview.
There's a plugin called Pamela for PC, you can use Audacity to just record the audio, Cam Studio will record your skype screen. You can also use ScreecastOMatic. They have free version but the upgrade is only $15/year.

    I do this.

Audio is best because it's so much easier to edit than video. You can chop out screw-ups and tighten up the content (I remove a lot of the ums and ahs; you don't have to do this as it is very time-consuming, but it makes a difference).

Have a site with some content on it first.

After you have one or two interviews done and posted, it makes getting more a lot easier. You have something to point to that shows you've already done it.

    Here's what I've found:

Working with experts who are used to doing interviews is a lot easier than those who haven't.

Experts who aren't used to being interviewed can sometimes not "get it", and think you're trying to steal their information.

In my case, with a bunch of past interviews for demonstration, I can expect 4/5 interviewee candidates to agree when I email them.

The holdouts are either too busy or don't understand the value in it.

Make sure you tell them in your Ask email that you both get copies of the interview and can use them however you like. But you will not be selling it. And mention that it's great for them to give to leads, so these new people can get to know them...without it taking any of the expert's time.

Interviews are always a great source of quality content, especially if the person is prominent or has success in a certain field. Every interview has a personalized touch to it based on each individual's different experience. You can never find two interview that identical content even if they are talking about the same topic.

Great idea! Make a membership site about that and charge money for it.

But PLEASE DONT do text interviews. You should do skype calls with webcam turned on so it will be as HQ as possible.

You got a good business plan here, if the top marketers actually have time to talk with you.

Yes, interviews are great. Being part of the poker media here in Las Vegas, I have made some good money interviewing poker players and poker television show producers. People love interviews because they enjoy getting to know the different personalities and to learn from those that are successful or popular in your field. Therefore, they drive good traffic to your website.
