Hi guys, respectfully,

My mother is 47 years old, she is a professional English teacher. What suitable topics can she start blogging?

Best Regards,
Yazeed.

What is she interested in? Does she like to cook healthy meals, train dogs, read books, play the guitar?

If she's developed special materials to teach English she could sell to other teachers.

The best thing to blog about is something you already have some knowledge and interest in but that also has a market.

Look at printed magazines and what sells best on Amazon.

Blog on things that she loves. That way, she will always have something to post. But of course, if it's for the purpose of making money, then, help her to do some brainstorming with her passions (could be more than one niche) and then check the profitability via keywords tool and choose the most searches one.

      Second Thought on July 25:

It's a good idea to make up a good-sized list of niche ideas to blog about - then, she could circle 4 or 5 topics which inspire her (True Passion).
And it is necessary to do the keyword research as well - I use Keyword Jeet, as you can start with one Central idea [primary keyword] and go from there (i.e, Jeet will give specific "related" ideas to mom.

She can save all the related ideas (as Keyword Jeet copies it to the clipboard) - now if she wants, she can also use Google Keywd Planner or Wordtracker.

But the idea is to "narrow down" (eliminate some of the original ideas), so that one is left with specific sub-niches.

It can't be so narrow that there isn't enough of an audience - this is WHY a person goes through the whole keyword research process - checking off the ones that don't fit.

      Good luck.

As she is an English Teacher, she can do anything. She should use that subject, where she is expert. I mean where she feel good to write. Thanks

An easier question to answer would be what she CAN'T blog about?

She is definitely not limited to her field and should be already armed
with the writing skills--a huge advantage.

Based on my observations, it seems the days of bloggers earning good money through advertising and corporate sponsorships are pretty much done. Some of the best of the best might still be able to earn a living this way, but for the most part, "Blogging as a Business Model" doesn't really work well.

That said, if she just enjoys writing for the sake of writing, there's nothing stopping her from starting a blog. And there are certainly ways to put good writing skills to use in support of an online business. But the focus there is on the business, not the blog (though naturally part of the business might involve blogging).

Gosh, you make it sound like she is an old person.

The question I have is why does she want to blog? Is she looking to make some side income or to just express herself in a new medium?

And if she wants to use it for side income, what kind of income goals does she have?

This may negate the type of blog/niche/topic she goes for.

Plenty of things. If she is interested in affiliate marketing, the following niches are lucrative:
    • Diet & Nutrition
    • Fitness
    • Pets (especially dogs)
    • Spiritual healing (i.e. "New Age")
If she is interested in Adsense, then blogging about anything will work. The most important thing is to pick a topic and stay on topic to increase the amount you earn per click. If it is a general blog, it will struggle.

Although she just missed being a "baby boomer" by about 5 years, if she wants to monetize her blog, appealing to women in that age group is a great way to go. They're the ones who have and spend a LOT of money.

Ares of interest for female baby boomers (and women a little younger, in your mom's age group) include:

    • Change of life (perimenopause and menopause) - huge topic of interest for her age group
    • Age-related health issues - weight gain, diet, exercise, keeping your bones strong to avoid osteoporosis, taking care of your skin, adrenal fatigue...
    • Caring for elderly parents
    • Keeping your marriage strong (or finding love later in life / after divorce)
    • Beauty tips
    • Fashion
    • Money management / investing / saving for retirement
    • Finding a new focus / passion after raising your kids
    • Travel

Those are just a few ideas. Of course, she'll enjoy blogging more (and probably have more success with it) if she blogs about topics that genuinely interest her. That being said, her blog should have a central theme or focus and not "all over the place" in terms of topics.

In order words blogging about her daily or weekly experiences will definitely be appealing to her age group. bringing to light some of her difficulties and solutions to those difficulties will definitely gain her more traffic since women of her age will easily relate to that and she can make money with her blog through the various ways available, ads space affiliate products etc.

Honestly, this age category is BEGGING for authority figures to take on topics - it is the perfect age category since this group has increased their online presence and can now easily be reached via social networks such as Facebook (today) and soon Instagram and Pintrest.

I urge her to take on a market that she has a passion for and build a following - play to her strengths (writing, audio, video) and build a bond with the market - lots to monetize once she chooses her niche and target market.

Get your mum to sit down and make a whole list of things that she is interested in. It doesn't matter how many, as long as she feels she has a passion for it, pen them down.

Next, do some research on those topics and eliminate them based on how well she can related to the content for each niche. The best blogs are made with people who are passionate about what they post about, and enjoy reading up on the topic as their hobby.

With good content, its always much easier to retain the traffic that comes to your blog, and given enough time, your mum will be the owner of a successful blog.

Where abouts did your mother teach?

Did she teach language, lit or eafl?

There's big markets for each of these options and if she already has experience in this sector could be something she might find interesting.

I'd suggest that your mom blogs about what she's most interested in. That will keep her motivated in the early stages when not much goes on in terms of traffic and earnings (if those are her goals of course).

While she could start a blog about any area that interests her, the one where she has the most experience will more than likely be the one with the smallest learning curve and the most opportunity for income generation.

Your mom could use her years of experience as a teacher to create products that fill a gap in the way students learn, or she could target her fellow teachers with products that help make their jobs easier.

She could also start a blog that provides lots of free information to students, teachers or both and monetize it with ads and sponsors. She could also sell coaching/tutoring or link to affiliate products.

This of course is me assuming that she'll stick with education as the main topic of her blog.

She can blog for whatever people usually ask her advice.

For example she can write a list about things people love asking her about and then see which ones of those things she likes best.
Then she will go and buy a domain that is either related to those things or to her as a personality, buy a cheap hosting account and finally setup a WordPress website and start blogging.

Funny question, just the other day my mother asked me exactly the same thing, if I would help her set up "one of those internet things you do". She is about 10 years older and also an English teacher. She loves teaching to all ages (although she gives lessons to 10-year old punks) and loves languages (speaks and writes 7 of them fluently - i'm not kidding, that's the number seven). So here's what I told her:

    - Get a forum on English teaching methods for kids. Ask all your teacher friends to join in and just write there. She attends a lot of conferences and teacher's weekends so I told her to always deliver a card there. "First mom, just write, write about everything you want about teaching English to kids." Two reasons for this: she is already used to php forums so that cuts the learning curve a lot and she know A LOT of english teachers. Boom: market and quickness.

    - Develop a Udemy course to a pretty specific market: I told her to do a course on teaching English to older business man who suddenly must speak English (they became CEO's or went to the board, relocated for work and so on). Promote this with Facebook ads only ("that Zuckeberg guys already has billions son..."). Or choose another niche, such as teaching 3 year-old kids. Sell this to parents, make it easy and colorful ("I'll write your jingle mom" - i lead a double life of writer and musician, sometimes not sure if I write to make music or if I make music to write, ah!).

    - Get a hack language learning blog (I told her this would take longer): I showed her Benny the Irish Polyglot and websites alike. She didn't like this...

These are just suggestions on doing stuff online on what she already does: teaching english.

The other suggestions were based on what I know she is good at (building a small garden, counseling parents on education, for example) but would be pretty specific to her only, so I am guessing it won't help you.

Obviously she is not very technical but I'll help her set up and then I will teach her the basics like posting a blog post.

Forgive me if this has already been addressed. I'm ashamed to say that I didn't read all of the previous replies. But...

Why does she want to blog? Meaning, what does she hope to get out of it?

It may be easier to answer the "what" if we first know the "why".

Topic closely relates to the blog post rather than the blog itself.

It's the niche which you have to decide if you want to start blogging for.

And the niche could be any subject matter that you are well versed with and readers get the value as well, from each post.

Better if the niche is a subset of a market which is a profitable one so that you can earn some consistent revenue from your blog.

If she's a professional English teacher, maybe she could target this niche? I know there is high demand for people wanting to go to the East (mostly Asian countries) and teach English there....maybe she could target this niche. Though, I'm not sure what the competition is like there.

If she's looking to make an income, she could do some niche research and check out the competition, have a unique selling point and BAM off she goes! Good luck to her, whatever she chooses to do

Pick one problem each (day or week - depends how often she she posts) and write about the issue and how she solved it. Write to one reader (the Avatar) as if talking to a friend. Make sure the problem matches her Avatar - make the problems every day items: i.e. getting wine stain out of dress, last minute meals when eating out plans cancelled, minding unruly children, and so on. It is best when the problem is real and the solution is personally implemented. Then learn affiliate marketing and use links to solution products within the blog post. Also place product ads on the site. After getting 10 posts put them in an ebook and use it as a lead magnet to grow here list. Then market to the list. This is just a start. However, she must stick to what she knows. Better to draw on life experience: i.e. if a retired teacher blog to parents of children of age she taught. Bring her real life experience to her posts.

Although the last response may sound harsh it is the correct one.

There is no magic button to instant profits or success and a lot of grind, tedium and humble pie has to be consumed to get where your mother has in some way indicated to you that she wants to go.

Get her to setup a warriorforum account and start exploring her options and developing her ideas, if she is not prepared to do that then she is in no way ready for all else that is yet to come.

It's all boils that to 2 major things to consider. First: what interests her? Might be something she loves, something she is knowledgeable on like parenting, English as a profession or just any topic.

Secondly she needs to make sure there is a market/audience for such topic most especially if she intends to monitize it in the future.

Hi Yazeed! Your mom can blog about her everyday life. What she taught her kids in class today, the funniest moments in class, highlights of the day etc. Then subtly recommend good english books to read that improves your english, that she can get commision from each sale she makes from her affiliate link to the book posted in her blog. Amazon has a good affiliate program as well as clickbank, rapbank, and many other similar market places, that allows her to sign up as affiliate for free, so she can sell products in there market place as an affiliate and get paid.

Then blog about what she is going cook for supper tonight, and take photos of the finished dish and upload it to her blog. Then subtly recommend some products in the ingredients or recipe books that she can make affiliate commission from.

She can blog about what she went through to pick out the outfit she is wearing today. Yes you guessed it! Then subtly recommend stores that offer commission for helping them selling their clothing. You can use google search to find some.

If she eats at a nice restaurant then she can mention to the owner that she has a blog with xyz amount of readers and subscribers that would love to try their food. Again here she can sell recipe books to go with that blog post or restaurant chain stores. the sky is literally the limit when it comes to blogging, as long as she find a way to monetize it. Eventually she can write her own books to sell to her blog readers on multiple topics.

She can see which topic sells the most books and build niche blogs on each of those topics and narrow down into those niches that sells best for her.

Successful blogging really has nothing to do with your age.

Instead, you should focus on the things that you're passionate about.

Passion is important because the more energy you can put into blogging, the higher the likelihood that your posts will be useful.

The secret to making money with blogs is the amount of value you bring to people's lives.

People are not going to build a community around your content if they can't get anything out of it.

    It really is that simple.

So stop focusing on your age or any other irrelevant criteria.

Focus instead on what you're truly passionate about.

Filter the topics that you're passionate about against basic commercial value.

You can find this by using CPC estimates at Google Keyword Planner.

The final filter you should apply is the level of competition in your niche.

Once you are able to apply these filters, you would then find topics that you are highly passionate about, that have commercial value and have a manageable enough level of competition so you can succeed.

As an English teacher, she could write just about anything. If she is going for the money, she could blog about a really profitable niche like dating, weight loss, electronics, etc...However, with skills like hers, she does not need to blog to make money online. She could write for Kindle, become a ghostwriter - do some research and write content for other marketers or write for sites that pay her to publish her content, or she could have a private label rights store and so on.

I'm sure there are a number of topics she understands well and even if she doesn't there must be a good amount of stuff that she's interested in which she can do some research on and learn about which will give her something to blog about.

Parenting and teaching kids at home (home schooling) would be great topics for her to set the ground. She can tell her life experiences and compare life at her time and life in today's time. Is she good in making something? Like knitting or making pillow covers? She can even sell them through Etsy.com. For understanding more the blogging stuff, she can ask to join any FB group where there are plenty of women who can teach her so.

Sign up for a free blog and just tell her to write about anything in her head. Eventually she may find something interesting to write about.
She may be an English teacher, but that may not be what she is interested in. After all, if she does something without passion, then her heart is

isnt fully invested in it. Once she picks up steam, maybe whatever she loves writing about could be monetised in some way. For instance, she is an English teacher who laments the mixing of British and American English and the poor grasp of grammar in today's world of lols and rofls. Write a blog, follow other bloggers, get noticed in some way, work up to writing a book about it, publish it, and blow Stephanie Meyer out of the water.

P.S. You could show her my post and tear my grammar to shreds. I would love that.
