How to become famous?

I'm serious. I want to become famous. Like an A-list celebrity...not a "social media celebrity" or "YouTube celebrity", but a real celebrity.

I've already applied to be on some reality tv shows. I suppose that's a start.

The only way I can find to become famous besides reality tv, is expensive publicity firms...some of them even offer a "make me famous" package...but they cost too much (like $20,000 and over).

So I need more serious ideas...how can I become famous? This conversation could be of use to us all because the same principles could be applied to any business in order to boost the business's fame, thus increasing sales.

So how can a person (or a business) become famous?

I know the answer can't be just talent alone, because there are talented people who aren't famous, and famous people who aren't talented.

So what do you think the secret to fame is?

I put this in the main marketing forum because I think marketing has a lot to do with it...what are some cheap or free ways to use marketing to become famous?

    -Talent
    -Connections
    -Good looks
    -Luck
    -Timing

Most need 4-5 of those to have any chance.

If that doesn't work, you could always commit a heinous crime or do something ridiculously stupid.

But, seriously, why would you want to be an A-lister? You don't just become an A-lister. And you can't really prepare for it so much because, as you said, there are talented people that aren't famous.

So.... Do you want to be famous --- or Relevant?

These days it doesn't take as much as it used that's for sure (Kardashian era). Just do something outrageous (Reality show style), make a sex tape with a celebrity, be superficial, be super self-absorbed and hope luck kisses you. If it's a slow news day you may get your 15 minutes of fame, if that floats your boat.

That's the scary thing about today's so called "celebs". No talent required, just be outrageous, mean, cunning or self-absorbed and you may get your shot. Predictable, normal or nice is boring and will get you pushed off a show faster than you can say pathetic.

But normally you have to be somewhat good-looking or be willing to get nip-tucked (something sewed on or cut off). But ,not sure how this relates to Internet Marketing though. Could you run that pass me again?

Fame isn't what it's cracked up to be. It is fleeting and carries with it a lot of baggage.

In order to be famous, you have to be something or do something special that sets you apart from everyday, ordinary people.

You can't make yourself famous . . . it's a title placed on you by others.

So what are you? Or what have you done? It had better be something that others like to share and pass about with friends and family.

BTW . . . there are a lot of famous people that became famous at the expense of family, friends, their health, good sense, and other things that are more important than fame.

Instead of seeking fame, why not do your very best to have a profitable business? If you succeed, you will have a certain amount of fame in your niche and you will have earned income as well.

It has always been curious . . . why celebrities chase fame so hard . . . yet when they finally earn it, they wear sunglasses and dodge reporters in order to get out of the spotlight.

I would absolutely HATE to be famous. Everywhere you go, there are multiple papparazzi in your face, cameras flashing. You will never have peace or solace out in a public setting, with your family or alone. The papparazzi sometimes love to piss you off and will push your buttons, because if you lose your cool, video of that is worth money.

Why would anyone want that? I'll take the money, they can keep the fame.

What you really want as a person, is not fame, but credibility and respect.
Fame is just a lot of people knowing you.
Credibility is a lot of people listening to what you have to say.
Respect is a lot of people having admiration for you.

He, he ... If you said that to most desperate people in Hollywood or someone who ask "How Can I Be Famous?" Which do you "think" they're more concerned with. Fame/Money or Respect? Most people like the OP always reserve the latter (so they think) "after" they get the Fame and Money instead of the other way around. Hollywood is full of em'.

Well, I think the downsides you guys have mentioned are worth it. You could make millions the rest of your life just for making appearances and selling autographed stuff or being on some reality tv show.

Another reason why I put this in internet marketing is I wondered if anyone was going to mention online press releases...do those contribute a little bit to fame when done for individuals?

Yeah but that's a very small part of it. You have to get the word out about yourself somehow, so they do help. But you asked about becoming an A-lister, not just someone that is well-known. A press release isn't going to turn you into an A-lister.

Not at all. Mention in a few scattered press releases won't make you famous. Besides, editors aren't going to even pick up your press release if they see through it as a self-promoting, ego-building attempt without a substantive story as the basis.

There are many types of fame. Notorious fame, political game, street fame, legendary fame, movie star fame, etc. You need focus first. Decide what you are passionate about. Are you a revolutionary? Are you a politician? Are you an up and coming actor?

Steve Jobs revolutionized communication through his iPhone invention. Hitler went to war with the world. Jesse James was an outlaw. Who are you? Decide, then proceed with your 10 year plan.

    Good Luck.
