Few Questions on URL Structure - Advice Needed

Hello,

I have a very complicated problem - or maybe I make it complicated

I need to change my URL structure. My current structure is .com/year/month/day/post-name and I want it to be .com/post-name because it annoys me (and I think changing it can be benefical). I know how to do this technically, and there is no problem with this part.

The problem is, I can't take the risks. So, I have a few questions on the necessity of changing my URL structure and potential risks about it.

1. I am in a selfcare related niche and have evergreen content. So, do I really need to change my URL structure?

2. If I change it correctly (with proper 301 redirects through htaccess) will I have issues with Google rankings?

3. I have a decent and steady traffic coming from Pinterest search and I am pretty strong on Pinterest. Does changing my URLs affect my Pinterest traffic and/or performance due to redirection? And if I manually change the URLs of my most repinned pins, do I have issues with Pinterest in terms of legitimacy?

4. Finally, am I thinking too much about it? What do you think about these potential risks? Am I being perfectionist?

I really need your help.

Thanks in advance,
Onur

#4 - You're thinking too much about it.

Provided you supply 301 redirects for each page that is "moved", none of the other issues are issues at all. That's the whole purpose of a 301 redirect, and the search engines will find these and properly update their index.

    That said...
it would be a good idea to re-create/re-submit your sitemap to Google webmaster tools (and Bing's, as well) with the replacement URLs to speed up that process and ease the transition for them.

  • If you are using WordPress you can change this easily. You probably have permalinks set to month/name . Try settings>permalinks>common settings>post name
