Why do current sales page have to be very long ?

Lets talk about an info product for example. I see sales page very long , with lots of graphics , examples , testimonials , success stories , dividing the product into multiple products and then buy all them in 1 , FAQ , multiple buy now buttons...etc,

I buy books from Amazon instantly just looking into book description ,content and rating. I can't remember anytime I bought anything from these cheesy looking pages.

I know right. I can't read all this stuff. I mute the videos and hit the End button to see the price and decide whether I should skim through the page or not. I don't get it, it's too much stuff for me.

Why do you read a book that has quadruple the amount of words in a sales letter? Because we like stories.

And that long sales letter is simply selling one.

Hardly works for people in the same niche (IM), but pretty effective for newcomers.

This has puzzled me too since the very beginning and I honestly still don't understand the people who spend half an hour or more on a sales letter. It's a sales page! It's never going to be honest with you!

The best sales page i ever encountered in my life was this

There is just one video which explains EVERY THING and a place which says "Add to cart" So SIMPLE and Amazing

This sales page was created by one of the worlds Top internet Marketers and i am 100% actually 101% sure that this page converts ALOT BETTER then all the other LONG sales pages

And a lot of people also hate these type of sales pages, especially with the video set to auto play, but they work, and so do long form sales letters, including the hybrid style.

A lot of top marketers often do quite the opposite. Creating the sales page as short and to the point as possible. But there are still a lot of people who tend to write very long sales pages, so it's obviously working. Clickbank have some crazy long salespages, takes 3 hours just to get to the end lol

    WHAT are you selling?

WHO are you offering it to?

    HOW is it being delivered?

    Titans of Direct Response

    Long copy.

$2000 "initial investment." And that's low ticket for these guys.

    People don't read.

    They scan.

They scan for the headlines and sections that interest them.

    That's why long copy works.

Long copy has many ways to "enter the conversation."

Buyers want to know as much as they can about what they're getting.

And then consider the traffic source. Hot, warm, or cold?

A prospect who is arriving on a sales page fresh from an urgent search (such as for the cure to some unpleasant blemish) likely needs less data than one who casually hopped over to the sales letter from a cold email.

The writer has to get the hook right, too.

Longer copy gives the opportunity to try more hooks out. Emotion: fears, hopes, revenge. Benefits. Even features (but we're falling down the selling effectiveness curve here.) Point is, people are not going to read every word.

Visitors are going to scan for things that speak to them. Their situation.

And if you don't have that included, you miss your chance as the seller.

Copywriting is not about pushing features and benefits at someone.

    It's about FILTERING.

    Probability.

Sorting those people who are likely to want what you have from those who aren't.

All the while competing with the reader's attention span.

Otherwise, sales letters could be infinitely long and cover every possible situation.

Clearly there isn't the time or space to do that.

So the writer has to narrow it down to the FEW BEST hooks they believe will work.

Sometimes they get it right. Often they don't.

Then you have a control to beat.

I recently wrote a sales page of about 3500 words and the first draft took me five hours. The second draft took me another five, and then another writer helped me edit it for two more hours.

Many other writers would still consider this to be fast work.

I'm also not including the "humming and hawing" time spent figuring out the approaches.

The marketing of the product is as important and valuable as the product itself.

If you rush that, you're doing your product a disservice.

Short copy can work for consumer, low ticket products.

But for anything of higher value, nobody is going to drop four figures or more on something marketed by a two minute video or 350-word sales "letter."

All of this goes along with the old adage, "the more you tell, the more you sell", meaning that the more time you have to try out all the techniques above, the more likely you are to hit one that resonates with your reader

You read books?! But they are so much longer than a sales letter. Tell me
why you read those long books and I'll tell you why those sales letters
    are so long.

The answer is a simple one:

Product vendors use long sales letters because studies show that they convert better than short ones.

That's all there is to it.

I'm with you on this one!

Sales pages tend to be way too long sometimes - they might be converting well, but I am sure there are shorter ways to sell and have very high conversion rates online. They are just being lazy with one method (without knowing if they keep testing and getting creative, they can find even higher conversion rates with shorter sales pages).

People these days do not have that much spare time to read a very very long sales letter. Especially as the technology grows, people are on the go more and more. They are getting used to getting things on demand!

I think it is becoming very old school to have a sales page without a video, and just text all over, with a few images. You can say a lot in one short video, why choose a very long cheeky sales page? ... right right?!

So, videos are a great way to keep it short and to the point. I don't think is about how long your sales page is, but about how GOOD your sales page is. I think most marketers are settling with what is showing good conversion rates, without tapping into new horizons!

What happens to being innovative and creative? ... should we just settle for what everyone is saying has high conversion rates? ... or are we going to keep testing every single thing! ... from one comma, dots, to the color of each letter! ...

There are other types of sales pages (without video) that convert way better than very long ones. It's just being lazy to keep testing that makes most settle for what everyone and just a few tests are showing. Just saying!!

Facts tell, emotions sell. Most of our purchasing choices are based off emotional purchasing and thats why long sales pages work.

But of course, for more technical based products this may not work so it varies from case to case.

  • Long copy works as it has numerous ways to approach the seller, however it also depends on the price of the product- for real ask yourself this, if you are going to invest in something don't you want as much information as possible, especially since it is online, even the 3hour sales pages aren't enough for me , I also go to youtube search reviews and google experiences- after I know everything I will buy, this way I know that I will refund if something is not right with the product but mentioned in the sales page. Or I don't have to waste money because I all the information proved it is a good product.

As stated above, long sales pages have been proven to sell better. I has been shown they convert better than a short sales page.

I was with you on this at the start. I hated writing long sales pages and hated reading long sales pages but what you need to realize is the general public just scans a sales page.

Different psychology. Amazon already has built in authority and trust, its branded and imprinted on your mind.

The reason you buy so quick and easily from Amazon is that you go there to buy.
