How would you make money in the video gaming industry?

I *love* playing fighting games and I can literally play all day and night and not get bored with it.
But when it comes to gaming there are already 999,999,999,999 gaming websites that are established, and you cant really sell a physical product because its all proprietary. And when it comes to cheats well theres so many free ones out there and on youtube.

So I was wondering is there money to be made by having an affiliate gaming website or other path? Or is there just too much competition?

    Hi, how about:
    1. Become a Game Tester

Large video game companies employ video game testers, whose job it is to test games in development and report problems they find.
    2. Are you an expert at a game ? Sites like Killer Guides will let you write an eBook that turns that knowledge you've built up into money.
    3. Boosting and coaching-people pay top dollar for good coaching!
Not anyone can do this, you have to be able to compete with the top players in the world at your game, if this is you, scour Google for coaching in your game and get yourself advertised. Boosting, however, can be done by anyone.
boosting is assisting other players in multi-player games, so they can reach achievements and rank higher on leaderboards.
The act of boosting has become taboo in most games, meaning players are willing to pay more for those that are willing to assist them. Similar to coaching, search google for boosting in your game.

    Hope that helped

I would start with youtube, there is a youtuber (jacksepticeye) with over 5 million gaming followers. Im pretty sure he receives a pretty decent adsense check each month. It comes down to passion for your niche.

Youtube man, start a channel and creating walkthru's and tutorials.

So much information out there about ranking and building authority as well, with some hard work you can start earning some pretty good cash.

My tips would be to be yourself, people love to watch and listen to personalities ...

    Hope this helped

Start streaming your gameplay on Twitch.tv. If you have a charisma level of 99 and can make people laugh, then you'll get followers fairly quickly. Especially if it's a niche of some sort ie. old school fighting games (old school games are popular right now).

You always get extra points if you're a female. Guys LOVE female gamers!

After you get a bunch of followers, it's time to direct them to your blog/website where you have game reviews, discount offers from Kinguin (check their affiliate program) and gaming devices, for example the old school Super Nintendo USB controller.

You should also record your Twitch streams and upload them to Youtube like suggested above.

Id love to stream and I can make people laugh, my problem is the security of it. it gets hacked so easily
      and people get swatted.

And I'm getting a PS4 in a few days so would be streaming on that

The oculus rift is becoming very popular now days. I myself own an oculus dk2, you will probably get a ton of views if you jump into VR gaming, less competition and millions of searches.

Creating desktop and mobile games are still considered a profitable business for many indie developers. If you enjoy game programming, there is a whole future there ahead of you.

    Good luck with your journey!

I helped a friend set up his gaming walkthrough youtube channel and website. He's doing pretty well for himself now, considering he started from his parent's house and moved out within a year, all from this venture. Now, I don't know exactly how he succeeded, but I guess it is a lucrative industry.

I used to run a few gaming websites. This was back in the early days of the Xbox 360. Made, probably, £90 a week. Not much, but pretty decent for a small website just getting started. I stopped working on the website when I was offered a new position at somewhere more established. Money was made through affiliate sales (mainly hosting to clans and game sales on Amazon). I also received a number of free review copies (close to three hundred games, I do believe). Which was brilliant. If I sold those I would have made so much more money (never selling them though)

If you produce good content, there is a market out there for you. I suppose the landscape is different now though. Video content is the way to go (niche it down, a lot), and maybe investing in a few games. Probably along the lines of mobile games, but now that it is easier than ever to get indie games published, you could learn Unity (although you will need to learn C#), and publish games on Steam (go through Greenlight) or even on the PS4 (I am unsure as to how easy it is for indie publishes on the Xbox One).

First, don't worry so much about competition. It just means there are more products and stuff to promote. Any industry that is worth going after is going to have competition. All it takes is one opportunity to get your foot in the door. Yeah, you should start a YT channel and a blog.

One guy I occasionally follow has only had his channel for 3 years, and he already has more than 500,000 subscribers and makes more than 100k from his YT channel, according to Social Blade. Just be thankful you're already passionate about a really profitable niche. Not everyone is that lucky.

It would really help if you are within the elite ranks of the game. This creates more credibility to your customers when you publish your content and you gain their respect by being in a position where they inspire to be.

You could consider publishing walkthroughs of new content that the games add or even publish an e-book guide on how the best methods to level up, gear up or farm. This can all be done quite easily if you have good knowledge about the game.
