are you going to emulate another brand? then find out everything you can on that brand including social media, their email lists, website(s), YouTube channel, any place that they would promote their brand. etc.

Starting up your own brand? the same research but with all the brands that would be your competition.

then you will have to do some "taste tests" to see if your clothing is acceptable to your prospects.

And a whole lot more. but that is a good place to start (I hope)...

Use ahrefs or any of the other backlink checkers out there to find out which sites link to your competitors

Hire a VA to do a statistical and brand quality analysis of the sites linking to your competitors

You should be able to detect a pattern.

Pick the best sources of brand mentions and reach out to them with compelling content.

As far as social media is concerned, your best bets are PINTEREST and INSTAGRAM.

Prepare to spend some serious coin on GREAT photography.

The good news is you can outsource high quality digital photography work to the Philippines.

You might have to ship some clothing samples and make sure the photographer has great lighting.

Clothing is a very broad niche. You should nail it down to be more specific first.

The latest trend seems to be "organic clothing" if it's something you're interested in.

People are more health conscious these days so if you can provide something that is better health wise and/or more environmentally friendly that can be a good long term business.

When you do an offline business, you just open a boutique, but you need to be really specific when you do it online. Just nail down to a particular category before doing any sort of research.

    For your success

    Hi cjsparacino123,

The first thing you have to bear in mind is "why do you want to do your market research?"

With so little information is hard to give you an accurate response. The first thing you should do is to define your Ideal Customer Avatar. The more you know about it, the better.

If you want to increase the sales of your business, you have to know where this audience is gathering at the moment (social media, events, forums, etc.) Then you have to know how you're going to reach them: are you going to launch an ad campaign? Online or offline? Are you going to offer them anything? Maybe you can start a content marketing campaign in your website?

Market researches can be as broad as you want them to be, so be precise about your objective and what you want to achieve with it.

  • search for underground clothing brands, snipe out all of their social networks, look at their analytic and backlinks, look at their layouts, their audience (jack their audience), trace their ip's, reverse ip look up etc etcc

track them down so that you can idealize their marketing strategy.

I'm curious, how would you go about "(jack their audience), trace their ip's, reverse ip look up"? I ask because I recently launched a brand, studied my audience, made some sale so far using mostly instagram and some facebook. I have a handful of competitors but I know there's gotta be a way to tap into their customer data base instead of "following and liking" consumers posts on social media to get their attention (It has been time consuming!).

Obviously ( or maybe not to some people) I would start a FB Fan Page and develop it over time.

Its quick to do and can be a feeder site into your main website

You can buy some targeted adverting through their platform and start getting traffic tomorrow
