Creating a gaming blog, monetizing with Amazon

Hey all,

I'm thinking of creating a blog around a popular first-person shooter. This blog would be dedicated to all things game related, and I wouldn't be reviewing any product that I haven't used myself. Consequently, most of the on-site ads would be Amazon widgets and in-line links when appropriate.

Do you think this setup would generate decent returns? Or are gamers generally ad-blind in your experience? Presumably, the Amazon ads would be contextual. Things like gaming pads, mechanical keyboards, other games, gaming mice, chairs, steering wheels, etc.

One thing to consider is that I would have no content costs.

Note: I'm not trying to get rich off of this site.

Thanks!

Ghoster, there's only one way to answer your question- Google that game title and take a look at the top ranking sites. Are you willing to give even more content than they currently have? Do you have insights to offer that others wouldn't? Are you an expert at the game?

If your answer is yes to all three things, then it's a great idea that will be profitable (how profitable, I don't know...but they will click your ads if they have reason to keep coming back to you). If your answer is yes to two of the three things, then it's going to be a tough road UNLESS the game is very new and there's not an established go-to place for info yet.

    I hope that helps.

I agree with kk075, you probably won't be alone in that space and there might be fierce competition.

My advice is that you don't start a blog thinking of money. Only start a blog if it's something you'd do for passion and you don't care if you don't ever see a cent. Unless it's a corporate blog or is complementing a site, a blog must be a hobby first, otherwise it'll be another of the millions and millions of blogs abandoned in a year or two, or even less.

    Hey Ghoster,
it's really hard to say, of course this vertical has potential, but it really depend on how the blogs will look like- it's design, it's content, and the amount of visitors you will be able to get there (:
After getting good volume- I am sure you will find offers that will work for you .
