Are Your Clickbank Sales Dragging? (possibly why)

Ok, well the last few days my CB sales were about half of what they normally are including today. Traffic is the same, and thanks to the new analytics I can see that hops are the same as well, if not up a bit. Order page impressions were about half of normal though.

I also received some emails from people stating that they tried to get to the order page but could not. This is odd, as 90% of people would just leave so if I'm getting some emails then it must be happening to a lot of people.

I tried going through the process myself and everything seemed to work...but still sales/conversions were very low.

So I looked on CB's page here: ClickBank System Status

They suggest pinging their 4 paylink IPs if you are having problems to see if they respond. The 4 are as follows:

# 209.81.12.134
# 209.81.12.135
# 64.128.87.134
# 64.128.87.135

For me, I can load the two beginning with 64 but the two beginning with 209 do not load for me.

I tried doing a couple of traceroutes using a few different services and there is definitely a problem somewhere.

Code:

So from the above it seems that sometimes when one of these payment ip addresses is used there is major packet loss or the complete failure to load.

I THINK this might explain why sales for me have been so odd these last few days.

Is anyone else seeing weird sales numbers?

I have sent this info to my CB rep, but they won't see it until Monday. I'm not sure if there is someone there over the weekend that would be able to look into this.

It may be that people in certain parts of the world get through just fine while others may not.

Please don't freak out and claim the sky is falling...there is definitely something wrong with these traceroutes but I can't confirm that CB is using them currently but this, along with my own stats, suggest something is out of the ordinary.

Something is not right with ClickBank. I had a person whom bought from my affiliate link then came and asked me for advice but the sale was not recorded in my back office.

I so dearly wish that CB would once and for all do something about their failing system.

I have had a number of successful sales today.

Haven't seen any real issues but I will keep an eye out.

    Thanks for sharing LB.

Yes, I've had plenty of sales today too but still about half of normal.

I suspect the paylink is either determined by geographic location or it's just a random load-balancing type setup.

From my home, I can get to everything normally and it loads fine. The low sales and traceroutes show another story though.

      Absolutely correct

      Thank you Pearson.

I will not respond to the stupid remark from '2b1ask1'.
He has no name, no site, no contact details and as far

Please guys, let's not make this about Harvey (who hasn't even posted in this thread).

This is a verifiable problem with the IPs that CB has provided, let's stick to that topic.

    I have a question:

I am new to Adwords and I want to start promoting a Clickbank product using Adwords, do you think I should open a new account or can I use my existing one?

I cannot really afford to just lose sales, what do you guys suggest?

I just signed up with CB about a week or so ago. With over 200 plus hops on the few products I picked-- the new analytics show 3 sales forms opened. but so far no bites...
Of course, I am still working on kicking in the ads/marketing; but in general can anyone share what 'standard' sales/hops has been for them??
I'm not giving up but dishing the money into adwords (where most of my clicks/hops came from) just isn't something I have $$ for yet if it isn't paying off any

Are you direct-linking or directing your traffic to a landing page with some form of presell? I've found that cold traffic from direct-linking converts around 1% on a decent sales page if the keywords are targeted properly.

With a presell, I've gotten anywhere from 20 hops per order to 80 hops per order over a 30 day period. A solid presell makes a huge difference.

Clickbank's own page says "Verify you can ping all of them." so I doubt that's the issue. But yes, it seems that the 209 IP addresses are the ones not working.

Thanks for the info LB. Was wondering about this. I've found that sales usually trend downwards towards the end of the month, but this current dry spell is beyond strange.

I haven't had a day without sales since getting most of my CB sites to the top 3 in Google about 2 months ago, up until Thursday. Since Thursday, I've had even more hops than usual, but unless I make a last minute sale tonight, I'll be at 3 days in a row without a single sale.

To add salt to the wound, I absolutely hate their new analytics system, although I'm interested in seeing what devs can do with the new API (iPhone app please and thank you!) and its myriad features.

Ah well. At least Amazon sales and CPA payouts are still coming in at a decent pace.

Any updates? Has CB been in touch with you in reference to this matter?

I spoke to my rep on the phone yesterday about some cool CB features on the way (obviously unrelated to this). They did not have any info on outages so I'm waiting to hear back from someone there today after they look over my info. If I hear anything I will post it here asap.

I still can't connect to those addresses, however I can see order forms fine so I'm not sure what's happening.

Clickbank has always had more hops than they should have. 200 is WAY too much.

For the record, I think harvey has been one of the fairest reporters on things like this, when he reported. It would be dumb to say ANYONE is always blameless. If anyone painted too rosey a picture, it was one of the clickbank guys that sometimes pokes his head in here.

Things have been strange since their latest analytics upgrade for me...

I have had several days of record high hops and no sales.... Prior I had 4 days of solid sales with half of the hops. Now I have 4 days without a single sale.

At one point about 2 months ago I had an one affiliate with 1250 confirmed hops and not one sale.

I don't know what to think...

    Hey Warriors,

Just as I suspected, during these few days, sales increases... Every beginning of each month, my affiliate sales increases, and slow down gradually and became very slow during the last few days before end of the month.

I don't think clickbank tracking has any problem at this moment, just the sales a bit slow.

Few tips to help you get better profit:

    1. Don't select highly competitive product with gravity over 150, you might had a hard time to convert.

    2. Build a list and use autoresponder to follow-up, you see your sales increases dramatically!

    3. Try to target for buying keywords at start - buy product name, product name discount, product name promotion, purchase product name, or even product name itself!! Then expand the keywords to research phase - product name review, products review, product ratings...

Building list and community has been very responsive for me, and it converts rather well, so don't ignore this step.

Good Advice... Can you elaborate on the high gravity not converting? Why would this be an issue?

I ask because I have had a product with very high gravity get 1250 confirmed hops and zero conversations. It baffles me still.... I dumped them because I was convinced they had to be doing something shady....

        It is simple -

        High gravity = High Competition!

I had a niche product with gravity over 200+, and I know that product converts...

However, while I am doing the hard work to follow up and answering emails, trying to convince people buying it, but the problem is, all major buying keywords is saturated!

Look at the result page and you see at least 19 other results is competing with you!! Even your customer want to buy, they may just click on one of those link and commission is not yours...

(19 results meaning - 9 other SERP with 10 adwords Ad)

Every rule has an exception, unless that product has great amount of searches, and convert extremely high, you just won't get a piece of it!!!

That's why finding a proper product with decent conversion and lower competition is important. Anything with gravity below 150 worth to try.

I'm glad I saw this because I could not figure out for the life of me what is going on.

Every since the new analytics update, my conversions have suffered.

I went from making a steady 3 of 4 sales a day on an affiliate product with PPC, to losing money almost overnight. In just the last week, I only got 5 sales in 7 days so I had to stop the campaign.

I thought maybe the life cycle of the product had fallen off because that will happen from time to time, but this time I felt something strange was going on.

I have a love hate relationship with CB. When its good, it GREAT! When its bad, it SUCKS!

          This SUCKS!

Well yeah... But I had 1250 confirmed hops from MY page to THEIRS. I was getting customers to click through but THEY were not converting them to sales or they were somehow eating my cookies....

Yes, I had the same problem and had to contact CB so they could override the CDR problem. Be prepared to wait a few weeks but they will get round to it eventually. Try contacting them asap and that should speed things up.

I too have had really bad sales over the last 4 days and was thinking something was awry. I know sales can come in bunches but I was getting pretty regular until now. Sigh.

I am completely non techy and don't know what all that means about pinging IP's so will just have to keep an eye on this thread.

Thanks for highlighting the problem LB

I know that yesterday there was a major global paypal outage. That may account for some of the lost revenue. PayPal Users Hit by Global Service Outage - WSJ.com

It wouldn't account for those non-pingable ip addresses though.

I am not really sure why pinging all four ip addresses is a necessary part of troubleshooting but two of those ips are still unreachable. For my CB account I am seeing hops and if I test my affiliate links myself I do get to a checkout page with my aff id at the bottom...I just know that my sales dried up to nothing and I'm a little disheartened. I was chugging right along but this has sort of taken the wind out of my sales...especially with a product launch coming up in the next two weeks...here is a copy of my ping logs and traceroute logs...yeah...I do desktop support and network administration so this has me really baffled....stuff just dried up on the 30th...like someone flipped a switch...yes hops...no sales...whateva whateva!

    This really sucks.

Something is definitely up. I have had no sales on CB for 3 days running. I have been checking a few of my aff links and sometimes when I follow the link to the clickbank checkout page its affiliate=none and sometimes it has my id.

Has anyone heard from CB regarding this? Because for the last few days (since the analytics update) my sales are about 50% of normal as well. This right sucks.

If you are on PPC, may be try tuning your campaigns with different products that is less competitive, and consider turning off some of your campaigns that are at lost during end of the month.

Keep testing and fine tuning is the key to minimize your lost and maximize the profit... continue to look for more buying keywords that convert better, just don't stop there.

Harvey and clickbank will probably tell you everything is O.K...

Bro, the campaign is not the problem, nor is the products. My current stuff has been running consistently for over 8 months with only minor seasonal drops. The odds that long running successful campaigns are just suddenly cut in half - at the exact same time CB has issued an analytics update - to at least half a dozen people in this thread - well, it would be the coincidence of the century.

Not taking a pi$$ at you kkchoon, as I can see you mean well. But I think that most of us here (in this thread) are very aware how to affiliate market and how to be a product vendor. At least speaking for myself, I apply the things you have been posting almost every day. It's marketing 101 to me. (However it is great advice still )

The problem is not in our campaigns, it's within CB system. Both affiliates and vendors are here talking about being timed out when trace routing. I've had the same results. That is absolutely not normal and certainly cause for some alarm.

Here is the response from ClickBank:

Our IP's changed but the status page had not been updated as to those changes, which
is why people could not hit the last two IPs. However, we had no outage of orders due to
the IP move and orders have been and are continuing to function correctly. The system
status page has now been updated to reflect the new IP's.

yeah...I had one go through late last night and I'm getting ticked at myself for sitting there looking at stats and pinging ip addresses and running traceroutes...instead of doing any dang work that might help me once this still gets sorted out. I know that about a half hour ago when I was looking at stats on CB it was taking forever to load and the page came up all formatted really weird so I think they're working on something...maybe?,,,hopefully? Let's think positive and get about the business of doing that vodoo that we do...

I still have one or two products that are getting tons of hops but no impressions on the sales page and no sales. I just did a test and clicked on one of my affiliate links. Went to the checkout page and my aff-id was there...we'll just see if it shows up in the new analytics page. I know that there is a lot of programming going into this stuff and a lot of information that has to be passed for it all to work and my hats off to the folks at CB for doing what they do. Like my baby burdder says "with everything that has to go right for a computer to even boot up it's amazing that half of this stuff works at all!" He's a software engineer. When CB is working right I love 'em...when things seemed to be hosed up...well, I just have a hard time sitting on my hands.

Anyone else notice anything weird? How are things going for you?

Is anyone still seeing any discrepancies between the old analytics numbers and the new ones?

For one product, the old analytics says it had 4 hops. The new analytics says it had 2 hops, 4 order form impressions and 2 order form submits and 0 sales.

I've noticed that the new analytics numbers are generally half of what the old analytics numbers are..

There is a reason for discrepancies, explained here
