Hi All,

I'm in UK and keen to hear how others are getting through the EU VAT nightmare.

I'm having to pay my book keeper a fortune to wade through Paypal, Stripe and 1shoppingcart records to find the locations of every single transaction and it is just getting rediculous.

Has anyone got a solution?

I have heard that some carts like Zaxaa offer the facility of blocking EU residents from buying (I like that idea as I have very few customers in EU countries and mainly sell to UK, Australia and US).

Are there any other carts that offer the same? Can this be offered as a viable solution to UK tax office?

How are other UK traders getting round this?

I'm using Quaderno and WooCommerce to sell my digital services and comply with the EU VAT rules. They calculate taxes on-the-fly, collect the customer location evidences, and provide a tax summary for tax returns. Hope it helps!

There have been a number of threads this year with this same question...

I notice that you are the author of three quaderno integration plugins at Wordpress.org so are you able to tell us what 2 pieces of buyer location information you are verifying to insure that the correct location is used to calculate the appropriate VAT rate - and how these pieces of information are validated?

        Hi Sid,

We use the customer billing address, the IP address, and the credit card issue address. The IP address is validated with a GeoIP database and the credit card country is provided by the payment gateway. Most of the cases (98%), at least two of these data match and you don't have to ask your customer for extra location evidences.

Let me know if you have any questions. Happy to help.
