Everyone on this forum talks about the importance of finding a coach. I'm currently trying to sell a premium course my wife and I created, and it's a bit different than other products out there so we're struggling with figuring out exactly how to sell it.

How would you suggest finding a coach? Any recommendations? How much should I expect to pay for a quality coach? I don't think we need the "best of the best" because we're not really wanting to adopt the typical IM strategies anyways, due to the unique nature of what we're selling.

      I just feel like I don't know enough about optimizing sales, and I feel like my specific situation (in terms of what I'm selling) calls for a more customized solution than a lot of the info that's available on this forum can account for.

    There is a time and a place for hiring a coach in some situations, but before you do you should look at your site, product, and selling system (especially your offer) with a critical eye and see if there are road blocks or hurdles that are keeping people from purchasing your "premium course."

    I am not going to list all the factors that could negatively impact your sales system, but it could be that just an easily fixed problem is what's holding you back. A coach may or may not recognize why you're not making the sales that you'd like at your site. It's an expensive proposition if you hire a good coach.

    I would suggest to start that you look at:
    1. Your prospect targeting. Are you attracting prospects that are looking for the exact solution that you're offering?
    2. Your web site headline, sub heads and layout. Is it attention-getting, interesting, intuitive?
    3. Your sales letter or copy. Is it compelling? Does it focus on "what's in this product for me (the prospect)?"
    4. Do you have testimonials (strong ones) and other social proof?
    5. Do you have a strong call-to-action?
    6. Have your taken all the risk out of the purchase with a solid guarantee? Do customers feel safe buying from you?
    7. What is your pricing like? Is it reasonable for the market? Are you trying to sell your premium course without selling a less expensive product first? (Most folks will shy away from buying anything over about $100 as their first purchase from a vendor.)
    8. Do you know that people would rather have a "course" over some other format? Does the course fit the subject matter in format?
    There are lots more questions I could ask. The point is, maybe your can figure out why your sales are low without the expense of a coach . . . at least in the beginning.

    I've seen many budding marketers engage a coach yet 6 months later they are still not making sales. Is it because the coach did a bad job or is there another reason?

    It depends.

    It depends on the individual situation. Some coaches are simply not up to scratch - often they are failed marketers who are desperately trying to make a buck as a coach. If so, why would you waste your money on them?

    (Of course if you are looking for someone to help you with technical issues then it's not mandatory to have a great marketer as a coach.)

    On the other hand sometimes the student is the problem. Maybe he/she is poor at implementation and not inclined to take advice.

    On some coaches it's a gamble. For others, you win BIG. The only coach i had was i get i met online in college. He had a tremendous product reprint rights package that sold for $1997. I would question him about it, then he made me an offer for $997 for it. I walked down to the bank and then the post office, and mailed out my money order immediately (overnight shipping).

    He received the money order, and started helping me for free from there on. Greatest marketing guy i ever met. He taught me virtually everything i needed to know.

    If selling on your own website is your life long dream for until you die... then spending/investing/losing a few thousand thousand dollars to achieve your ultimate goal is insignificant compared to the glorious lifestyle you will live eventually in the future.
